Americans, of course, are not immune to making self-important snap judgments of other cultures. We may not be fond of the French, but "freedom fries" and a wholesale condemnation of "Old Europe" actually confirm the European suspicion that Americans are ignorant, isolationist, and arrogant, and a cycle of petty name-calling is begun.

............................................................

I do hate when tit for tat name calling happens. Both sides are guilty of tacking the bait of the liberal media.

Amen to that. You hit the nail on the head.
The liberal media HATES authority. They are peuerile teenagers still rebelling against daddy and mommy.
They use their little word processors to feel big and bad like Alan Ladd when they are REALLY small and puny like Mickey Rooney.

If they don't eventually grow up they become national leaders of the Democrat party, Michael Moores/Barbra Streisands, founders of crap-sites like moveon.org and mega-arrogant Dan Rathers/Tom Browkas. They are warped Peter Pans living in the Never-never Land of the liberal, progressive, left-wing media world.

Ameicans do not have to be insulted by the likes of the FRENCH SOCIALIST GOV., or British Socialist, because we defend ourselves. Your statement is a perfect example of the go along to get along attitude that permeates the lefties. Since when is defending yourself "ignorant, isolationist, and arrogant."

Screw the Europeans! They started a secret culture war with us many years ago. It has only recently broken to the surface for all to see. We are in a fight with a decedent culture of fear, appeasement and stupidity - the 21st Century version of Arabia. I say "bring them on."

The name-calling began with "the cowboy Reagan" as I recall.
But never mind. The cold fact is that the serfs of western Europe have willingly been led into a culdesac (little frenchyfrenchman lingo there) by feckless and corrupt leaders.

The antagonism of euros to America is indeed a cultural divide, one of which we should be proud. Every alcoholic bum who, too clever by half, has drunk himself out of a promising career and onto the street will grumble and disparage the neighbor who, by dint of hard work and relative discipline, has succeeded.

"Eurabia" threatens to become a struggle between two failed cultures, fighting over the remnant assets of the West, like two vagrants fighting over a sheltered spot under the bridge.

THe biggest difference between the anti-Americanism of the 60s and 70s and now is that back then when they called us Ugly Americans we bought into it. Now we say you can take your labels and stick'em where it feels good.

"Both sides are guilty of tacking the bait of the liberal media."

If it were not for the MSM & MSP around the world pushing half baked opinions rather than reporting facts, no one would give a flying fig. EU it is said, blames the US for all their woes, mainly Muslim; Africa blames the US but wants the aid...and so it goes. The myths of "the President lied"..."it was Condi Rice who lied"...Don Rumsfeld is at fault" but never tying Bill Clinton to the recession or terrorism yet it was on his watch that things began to fall apart...MSM myths.

I frankly don't give a flying fig what is thought, most of it is gossip and parroted remarks that no one took the time to research for the truth! Bill was “fiddling while Rome burned” – George Bush picked up the enormous slack and began the huge job of patching things up when 9/11 occurred – the President never looked back, grabbed the reins and has been driving every since…EU etc. were caught with their hands in the proverbial cookie jar, happily appeasing thugs and terrorists, doing business as usual, something Bill Clinton was guilty of also, hence his popularity with the UN and EU. So in the profound words of Mrs. Heinz Kerry, tell them to SHOVE IT!!

Same here.

An "article speaking for Europe" brings the Anti-Europeans out in force here. I wish people would remember the source.
