(AP) - Legislators' libertarian leanings prevailed over pleas for highway safety Friday when a House of Delegates committee dealt with bills governing motorcyclists and red light scofflaws in Virginia.
The Militia, Police and Public Safety Committee rejected several bills to expand or continue local pilot programs that use cameras to catch red light runners. The panel also endorsed legislation allowing motorcyclists 21 and over to ride without a helmet.
The panel voted 15-6 to kill Del. Michelle McQuigg's bill expanding so-called "photo-red" monitoring systems statewide. Six northern Virginia localities and Virginia Beach have pilot programs that are scheduled to end July 1.

Then why stop at cameras. How about rubber bumpers on the sides of the road. Perhaps a grooved slot for our cars to run in. Too much traffic? Road use rationing! Unsafe drivers? How about a police ride along --yeah a cop in your back seat ensuring safety. Yes. Yes! It is all for the CHILDREN!
Whoever "we" is--you need to get a life. You are losing your limited credibility with each frantic post.
Yeah, I kinda did get off subject didn't I? Nonetheless, the principle is the same; a police officer should be present to observe and report. At some point immediate to the alleged infraction there needs to be human intervention. Perhaps someone who ran the light was transporting an injured person for medical care and they ran the light in a prudent, safe manner.
Looks like another thread supplanted it.
Still, you haven't addressed the question of how it is that liberty is extended by putting an armed cop on every street corner.
No doubt 'tis a mystery, eh?!
BTW, it's not the 2X2 sticker we check out to tell if it's a PW driver, or not ~ rather we look to see if you still have your left index finger stuck in your nose!
