Disabling injuries that require long term care are higher among those who wear helmets. An accident that would have killed a person without a helmet, may leave that person a quadraplegic with a helmet.

Interesting stuff, but I'm just going by real world highway statistics, not racing and professional riders. Personal choice should play a role in all safety issues.

All actions have consequences other than those planned for. A good example of that is "airbags". We know for a fact that "airbags" sometimes kill people. We still have not been shown a single example that "airbags" have saved even one life.

I put "airbags" in quotes because they aren't. They are explosive activated woven steel restraints. They are not soft like air, they are hard, like Mike Tyson's fist.
