Frightened neighbor sues teens over late-night gift — and wins. Durango, Colo. - Two teenage girls who surprised their neighbors with homemade cookies late one night were ordered to pay nearly $900 in medical bills plus court costs for a woman who says she was so startled that she had to go to the hospital.

La Plata County Court Judge Doug Walker declined Thursday to award punitive damages, saying he did not believe the girls acted maliciously but that 10:30 was fairly late at night for them to be out.

Taylor Ostergaard, then 17, and Lindsey Jo Zellitti, then 18, baked the chocolate chip and sugar cookies one night last July. They made packages with a half-dozen cookies each and added large red or pink construction-paper hearts that carried the message, “Have a great night” and were signed with their first initials: “Love, The T and L Club.” Then they set off to make their deliveries.....

10:30 at night, a 49 year old woman scared to the hosital and sues. Next she'll try to sue her shadow and, given the sorry state of the law, she'll probably win!

I agree with your comments, but the girls should've known better than to bother somebody at 10:30pm.

Sorry. I searched 'Cookies', 'girls' 'sue and sues', 'gift' 'late' and came up with nothing. Then I scanned articles for the past two hours and nothing. I hate DUPLICATE POSTS and I wish there were a better way to avoid this. Any suggestions? I am embarassed but don't know what I could do to have prevented it.

Just as dusk arrived a little after 9 p.m., Taylor and Lindsey began their deliveries. They didn't stop at houses that were dark. But where lights shone, the girls figured people were awake and in need of cookies. A kitchen light was on at Young's home.

Court records contain half a dozen letters from neighbors who said they enjoyed the unexpected treats. But Young, at home with her 18-year-old daughter and elderly mother, said she saw shadowy figures who banged and banged at her door. She thought they were burglars or some neighbors she had tangled with in the past, she said.

The girls wrote letters of apology to Young, with Taylor saying in part, "I just wanted you to know that someone cared about you and your family."

The families had offered to pay Young's medical bills if she would agree to indemnify the families against future claims. Young wouldn't sign the agreement. She said the families' apologies rang false and weren't delivered in person, so she brought the matter to court.

Any post from another source with a different title is not really a duplicate post!!!!!!!! You may now go to sleep without a troubled mind.

Thanks! That's why I tried Search with single words, wary that the same item from another source very probably doesn't have the same title. Still foiled but I did try.

Hmmmm, maybe she should be grateful that the package on her front porch wasn't a flaming bag of something else.

I was thinking of an IED as an appropriate substitute.

[Young said the teenagers showed “very poor judgment” “The victory wasn’t sweet,” Young said. “I’m not gloating about it. I just hope the girls learned a lesson.”]

I'm afraid the girls will have learned the wrong lesson. That to be nice to others is a waste of time.

Just imagine the negative opinion of humanity this woman must have her brain saturated with for her to talk and act this way.

Well, the next packages left on her doorstep SHOULD be flaming bags of dogturds, or worse.

Well, there's the problem. You didn't search T and L club, Ostergaard or pink construction paper!

This story was just featured on Lou Dobbs tonight. Sounds just as bad. He used the phrase 'No good deed goes unpunished - Sometimes'.
