Sidebar: While we're thinking about the meaning of the word "ally" - how about a list of people who quit their full-time job last June to become a full-time volunteer for the Bush team? I'll start it off:

1) Peggy Noonan

Feel free to add names as they come to you...

Probably quite a few volunteers did just that, also at personal sacrifice. They, however, don't have columns in the Wall Street Journal n which they could announce it.

And just WHAT did dear Peggy actually DO for the cause?

Did she write the speeches for anyone, who brought the house down at the GOP Convention? NO!

Did she make a LOT of hay, going on radio talk show after radio talk show and to pump herself up/pat herself on her back ? YES!

Did she do anything more valuable than those of us here, who also gave our time, money, and effort to get the president re-elected? NO!
