"China recognizes they cannot defeat the U.S militarily NOW. However, they don't intend to pick a fight NOW. They (by their written word, plans, and actions) are preparing for what they see as the inevitable future confrontation. A confrontation that will take place at a time when China IS prepared, and the U.S. is not."
Jeff head's DRAGON'S FURY SERIES is a great novel series about this frightening eventuality that keeps moving higher on China's list of things to do.

I would argue the terrorists are an 8 digit grid coordinate. The muslims are playing a game with us and we are the fools. The Saudis still preach hatred and send it over seas and to America. Most other muzzie countries continually show their hatred for Jews overtly and for Christians overtly and covertly. As General Sherman said; "they want war, lets give em all they want"!!!

"As the Chinese build their military and technology, it is imperative that the U.S. develop systems and procedures for 1. Protecting our satellites 2. Disrupting or destroy enemy satellites" Concerning the point 2 above, the USA already has that capability a decade ago. As for protecting satellites apparently an air to air missile is capable of hitting them in low orbit, but they can also be diverted to avoid killer satellites with anti-sattelite technology onboard.
So it seems that having an opinion that command and control technology must be protected is somewhat obvious but naive. There is NO way to completely protect that infrastructure 100% during a large protracted world war.It will be the strategic objectives of both sides of the conflict to damage that infrastructure as much as possible. hence the Chinese have wisely opted out of US GPS and developed their own as they would be vulnerable if they had a dependency during a conflict on the enemies GPS technology.
By scaling down the type of military that the US has to fight anti-insurgency and small actions with a better quality and better equipped Army, Navy and Air force, the USA is making a smart decision based on it's threat analysis on what is comming in the future.
Long term strategic planning for a war with another superpower with technology able to minimise and make more efficient the allocation of military assets has resulted in cut backs on heavy theatre technologies that are less mobile or robust or take too long to deploy. Investment and development of technologies that coordinate theatre assets give overview to tactical commanders and simultaneous intelligence to battlefield strategists is what will win future conflicts. that an the ability to eliminate larger opposing forces with smaller better equipped and better trained opposing force. the US is downsizing not because of budget constraints but because it is getting smarter.
