Real American Indians Upset with Ward Churchill
AMERICAN INDIAN MOVEMENT GRAND GOVERNING COUNCIL MINISTRY FOR IN ^ | February 5, 2005 | American Indian Movement

Posted on 02/03/2005 8:12:46 PM PST by huac

"The sorry part of this is Ward Churchill has fraudulently represented himself as an Indian, and a member of the American Indian Movement, a situation that has lifted him into the position of a lecturer on Indian activism. He has used the American Indian Movement’s chapter in Denver to attack the leadership of the official American Indian Movement with his misinformation and propaganda campaigns...Ward Churchill has been masquerading as an Indian for years behind his dark glasses and beaded headband. He waves around an honorary membership card that at one time was issued to anyone by the Keetoowah Tribe of Oklahoma. Former President Bill Clinton and many others received these cards, but these cards do not qualify the holder a member of any tribe. He has deceitfully and treacherously fooled innocent and naïve Indian community members in Denver, Colorado, as well as many other people worldwide. Churchill does not represent, nor does he speak on behalf of the American Indian Movement..."

Go easy on Ward. Judging from his resume and comments, he's not the sharpest tool in the shed. If it wasn't for multiculturalism and ethnic studies, he would be asking you if you wanted fries with that. Her daughter probably used some big words he couldn't understand and the poor guy just got intimidated and scared. The "F" was reflexive, a defensive action against Churchill's bete noir, intelligence...

She got an "F" for having the timerity to suggest that the Indian might somehow be able to improve themselves by their own effort, implying that perhaps they might share some responsibility for their own condition, instead of blaming it all on the "White Man".

She would have done better by suggesting organizing boycotts and demonstrations and demanding reparations from the government. That would have worked.

Found this article, huac:

Churchill controversial on two fronts

...The Oneida Indian Nation [of New York], which has historic ties to nearby Hamilton, issued the following statement:

''It's disturbing that anyone would use such hateful speech, and do so while claiming to be an American Indian when there is significant evidence that he is not. Professor Churchill caused many in the media to falsely believe an American Indian scholar could besmirch the lives of those who died on 9/11. Because of this, he owes every American Indian an apology.

''Likewise it is sad that he would perpetrate this apparent hoax on Hamilton College, an institution founded to help educate Indian students.'' (Hamilton was founded by Samuel Kirkland, 18th century missionary to the Oneidas, and the famous Oneida Chief Schenandoah is buried on its grounds.....)

I'll suggest it to her but in spite of his c, she graduated with honors and is in grad school now. She is very suspicious of people who talk about the "man" and rabble rouse. She also views with suspicion people who make or try to make people think their way. I think she knew he hated what she was,,white, privileged, gentle, unscarred and decent.

She would kill me if I sent her story off to OReilley.

Maybe she can get the U of CO to adjust that grade after this.

This is a real possibility. The UofCO is running for cover now. They don't want their laundry aired publicly.

He nevere gave her a reason, he made fun of her. In fact one of the guys in heer class challenged him and said Indians needed to get over being victims and care for themselves,,he kicked the guy out of the class.

I hope O'Reilly (The Factor) gets ahold of this thread (someone mentioned earlier they had sent it). You might want to send it to him.

However, if you send something mistreatment of students, and a way to get ahold of you, he'd be more likely to take it up and maybe interview you (and/or them).

Ouch. You should post this on the news and activism as it's own post. The vampire has been exposed to sunlight, but it ain't over til you drive the stake through it's heart.

She used to talk about him incessantly. What mostly enraged her, aside from her F, was that he required the class buy like several hundred bucks worth of useless books that were written by his fellow radicals.

CU was a good place for her in spite of him. I found they actually did a better job than the private more elite universities my other daughters went to. Duke was a shambles, full of phonies. U Michigan as a grad school was full of ethnic politics and political correctness. One daughter was in a grad program there and people expressed surprise, asking her how a white girl got in when she didn't have a good hardship story. She was sort of the token white girl from good family. It was a crazy place.

Wasn't it some of their members accused of gunning down FBI agents some years ago?

Dennis Banks?

Hmmm.

Went to the site and found that Churchill has his BA and MA from Sangamon University which is in Springfield, Illinois. I have never heard of a department chairman not having his/her Ph.D. Most of the rest of the dept. have their Ph.D's from Berkeley (argh!)or Yale.

Yep, I have enjoyed Churchhill's downfall.

And you know, in a funny way, there is no better more searing lesson in life than getting royally screwed by someone in power. It sort of teaches you something you could never learn any other way. And that is to not trust all authority, to think for yourself, to take your lumps and find out the world doesn't end. And to get the last laugh is a wonderful bonus. I think every kid at some point should have a terrible unfairness done to him/her and to deal with it without parents, lawyers, etc. It sort of makes one deal more fairly with others.

You are correct. I only used this because if anyone can authenticate Indian heritage and expose Churchill for the fraud he is, they can. I, in no way, endorse Banks, Peltier et al for their other activities.
