Here't goes... May God be with them. One Airliner attack a decade is enough, if not too many. Please God, just let this be the super-anitquated technology in Afghanistan.

"Fedayi said the plane was diverted to an airport in Pakistan, possibly Peshawar (search), but that the company had no word on whether it landed safely."
? Did they call anyone?

It was given clearance to land, but it never arrived, Kamgar said. Lahore airport earlier reported to us that it had landed in Peshawar, then when we contacted Peshawar they told us it had not landed.
A U.S. military spokesman said the plane had been reported missing to them. It had not landed at any U.S.-led coalition airfields in Afghanistan.

I wouldn't send up the balloon just yet.
It's possible that terrorism may be involved, but . . . weather bad enough to divert a flight, mountains, and primitive navigation aids is a combination that can cause a crash without any human intervention whatsoever.

Most likely a Boeing 737-200.

Or it has landed elsewhere.

I am thinking weather due to the reference to bad weather, but fear terrorism.

Rugged terrain.
No sign yet of terrorism.

My gut feeling says that terrorism wasn't involved.

Just like I said (and was mercilessly flamed for) last time there was an airliner crash, nothing should be assumed until more facts are known.
Based on what we know right now, weather was poor, aircraft diverted, the odds are it was not terrorism but we'll have to wait and see before knowing for sure.

What primitive navigation aides? You can buy a GPS at radio shack. You thing somebody would buy a 737 and can't afford the GPS?

Mee too.
I am into the "terrain" and perhaps some lousy weather.

Yeah, and if the last charts you have were from a British government survey circa 1870, heckuva lot of good a GPS is going to do you.
GPS is not a cure-all in areas where the charts are not up to date. In fact, it can get you dead in a hurry if you depend on it.
