It just hit me during the speech. Everyone else out there is just so much small beer and mashed potatoes. Oh, perhaps Cheney gets it, but he's not up for 2008. Condi is the one who has shared the private grief with GW and Laura as casualty figures came in, and remained as convinced as they are that this cause is not only just, but noble in and of itself, and speaks of that nobility with a ringing conviction. Giuliani comes close, I will admit, but there's something missing there and I'm not sure what it is.
Condi is descended from slaves. Liberty has a real and abiding meaning to her. Her family went through things that most of the people on this board and in this country simply cannot fathom. She instinctively understands what this is all about and, I am convinced, has been the crucial actor in the development of Bush's post 9-11 Crusade for Liberty.
And the nation is supposed to vote for Hillary by acclamation because she's spent time on Armed Services?
