Big Joe Burrell died today at the Medical Center Hospital of VT
He played around the world but decided to settle some years ago in Burlington, VT and we were blessed by his genius and talent.
The link to WCAX-TV will provide a transcript of their story a little later tonight or catch a story on Big Joe in the http://www.bfp.burlingtonfreepress.com tomorrow.
Big Joe is picking for Gabriel tonight!
Think of the sessions that go on!
I just saw it on the news tonight, I'm in tears. I've been watching him since I was in college, well onto 20 years now.
He was a Burlington institution, and will be sorely missed.
He was the nicest man, too - sometimes I'd go up to him to compliment him after a show and he was always kind and gracious.

I enjoyed looking at your home page.
Besides being a music freak, I have in the past year become a Patrick O'Brian fan.....he being the author of the "Master and Commander" book/movie and 21 others.
You might want to look in on the Patrick O'Brian website

I plan to check out O'Brian's work later this year. I just finished reading the whole Hortio Hornblower series and need a bit of a break from sea battles in the Napoleonic wars. He'll have to go some to measure up to "old Horny," at least in the seamanship and battles.
I'm currently reading James Hogan's Giants series and am looking forward to getting a chance to read John Ringo's Cally's War and Eric Flint's 1635:The Galileo Affair. Both of the latter are parts of series that I'm fond of.
In non-fiction I've got Gingrich's new one lined up, as well.
Thanks goodness for ebooks and my Dell Axim.
I am a longtime blues DJ (since '88) at a college station near Boston and am familiar with his work...he was featured on at least one of the "Best of the Green Mt. Blues" compilations that WIZN's Mr. Charlie put out. (When I visit Burl VT I try to catch Mr. Charlie's show, Sunday mornings. Caught Jim Branca doing a live show up at Church St. Marketplace last summer.)
Sad to hear of his passing. I've played his "When I Hear That Mellow Saxophone" from the compilation...I think they also did a nice long New Orleans-style song from one of the other compilations.
Have spread the word about this to New England Blues Society.

I am a big PO'B fan too. Mrs SV bought me the entire collection this year for Christmas.
Prayers going out for Mr Burrel.
