TIJUANA An American man and two Iraqis arrested at the Tijuana airport last week have been charged with immigration violations, according to Mexican authorities.
A Mexican federal judge will determine whether to dismiss the charges or proceed with a trial. The men are being held at a state prison in Tijuana.
The three flew to Tijuana from Mexico City Jan. 26 on an Aeromexico flight, but they were stopped by Mexican immigration authorities who inspected their documents, according to Mexican authorities.
The Iraqis later identified as Steven Yohanan Kurkis and Kaml Meti Bashar showed passports from Greece under the names of Nikolaos Skarvelis and Nabil Megalli, according to a news release from the Mexican Attorney General's Office.
The American, Samer Toma Oraha, showed an expired U.S. passport with his name on it, according to the release.
An initial investigation determined that the Iraqi citizens traveled from Greece to Spain and then to Mexico, according to Mexican authorities. Oraha, identified as their contact in Mexico City, was going to take them to the United States for about $10,000 each, according to Mexican authorities.
The Baja California border is a popular crossing point for Iraqi Chaldeans, who typically seek asylum in the United States. It was unclear whether the detained men were Chaldeans. Mexican authorities have been targeting smuggling rings that bring Middle Easterners through the border.

Interesting that Mexico seems to acknowledge that there are smuggling rings that bring 'middle easterners' through our southern border.

Well, yeah but they were just trying to get jobs Americans won't do......................
wait a sec... Mexico has laws about immigration??
But the terrorists aren't crossing the border right? Right?
Wrong.
*and* they're able to pay 10K each to do so.....:o(
Immigration? Sure. Emigration? Nah.
Sure they do.......and they enforce them.......(unless the 'mordida' pay$ enough)
I am still waiting for the Chinese, Cuban and Venezuelan military coalition to take back the southwest
It seems they enforce them on their southern border a bit better than the northern one
"Wonder if we'll hear the "rest of this story" ??

Yet our own government does not...
How long will it take for the OBL to say this proves that potential terrorists AREN'T getting through?
If we give it away they will come. Keep in coming King Bush we are too stupid to understand that our border is a freaking funnel for the terrorists that would want to kill Americans. BTW thanks in advance Bush and the RINOs for allowing such terrorists to enter our country freely and destruct our way of life (sarcasm alert).
Border problem = border solution
1)take away all benefits
2)penalize employers
3)optional if 1 & 2 enforced - put up a wall
Wow. Didn't know Chaldean was still a recognized people group. This goes back to the Biblical times of the Chaldean empire aka Babylon and the times of Nebuchadnezzar.
"The Baja California border is a popular crossing point for Iraqi Chaldeans"
They could be in Iraq fighting for their country's freedom instead of our young men and women! If these guys are given asylum,we have sunk to a new low!
Tijuna??? I'm stuned! I will check my beeber-like device.
Why is that not a concern for anyone in the press or the government?
unfortunately our government is not concerned, and the media could care less.
My arse.

Translation: UNTIL a large deposit is wired into a certain Swiss bank account, the "trial" will go forth.
Weren't they looking for two Iraqi men along with the Chinese who supposedly were smuggled in through Mexico to plant a dirty bomb in Boston?
Yep, that's just two more questions (in this small article) our gov't *should* answer.
