Keep in mind that the Roman Church was not a big fan of science early on, either. Remember Galileo?

The Catholic Church invented the Scientific Method, driven by Reason and Natural Law. Galilieo's problems with the Pope had little to do with science and a lot to do with his suggesting that the Pope - who had been a major supporter of his - was an idiot.

Most all of the mathmatic devellopment usually credited to Islam - including Algebra - were lifted from India. Islam was an effective conduit to the West - it created little new.
