There is a real comical quality to all this, this would make a good B comedy movie. I love the images that come to my mind thinking about this, like some Germans trying to point out, to their clueless government, that we have massive troops in place ready to swing into action to save the Secretary. Peacenik Greens laying in front of the tanks with shadowy Turks urging them on and laughing at them. The huge farce of Germany claiming the moral authority to put him on trial for war crimes. Some ancient old Odessa guy cackling about having his revenge. The weak modern German army thinking it could hold him. France rushing to Germany's aid with a sad sack platoon transported on old tour buses that break down on the way.

ROFL. But, hey, don´t think the German army were weak: "Ve haf vays off macking yu sinking ve were week. Butt instad, ve haff hutegh undergraund armies!"
Seriously, IF (LOL) we arrested him, he wouldn´t survive the day of an American invasion or resuce mission. I always wonder why the guards in the movies don´t shoot the hostages once they realize that they´ll die soon!?
