Don't help, Border Patrol says

Sector Chief Michael Nicley said volunteers who try to patrol the area could hinder operations and draw away Border Patrol agents from priorities if they encounter problems.

The Minuteman Project, headed by Jim Gilchrist in California, plans to bring volunteers in April for a monthlong air and ground patrol of Cochise County.

The 83 miles of Cochise County's border with Mexico are among the busiest for apprehending illegal immigrants.

Nicley said he has concerns about the air operations being proposed by the Minuteman Project since part of the airspace in Cochise County is earmarked for the Border Patrol.

Also, Nicley said the project's volunteers are not trained in law enforcement.

Many of the Citizens here do not want the Minuteman Project, the Local Law Enforcement doesn't want them, the Border Partol doesn't want them.

It is my opinion that these folks should leave their guns at home. Please bring the wife and kids with you there is some wonderful history in this area. Please take the time to know us before you stage an armed invasion into our communities. How selfish and foolish is it to come to someone else's hometown with guns in your hands when the citizenry have told you that you are not welcome in that capacity! I respectfully request that Jim Gillcrest or whoever is leading this group kindly ask them to "stand down". Thank you, I am not experienced at starting threads, but this issue is doom hanging over our homes. Their presence may only cause the deaths of more Border Agents or Local or Federal agents or some (perhaps well meaning) people who think they are coming here to accomplish something in a month that they are not trained to do.

Here's a thought. Put pressure on the Bush administration and congress to secure the border and enforce the laws and civilians won't need to patrol the border.

When the homes and ranches of American citizens stop being over run by illegals the citizen patrols will stop.

Though many of your citizens do not want these volunteers to come and 'help' out, many of them apparently DO want the help.

This is part of the confusion created when the government does not do its consitutionally appointed job to defend the national sovereignty.

Maybe your efforts would prove more fruitful if you addressed your concerns about the border to the federal authorities.

the Border Partol doesn't want them

The vast majority of BP Agents do want then, it's mostly management that does not want them.

How selfish and foolish is it to come to someone else's hometown with guns in your hands when the citizenry have told you that you are not welcome ----in other words you would rather have the flood of illegals than have help enforcing the border that the border patrol does so well.I heard the founder of this project and he stated that his people would NOT be armed.-Please stop trying to make this out as an angry armed mob.

These guys haven't hurt anyone, and you're in as much danger by no one doing anything. An American was killed on the other side of Brownsville, TX in the last couple of days, and shooting incidents involving border agents are on the increase.

Gilcrest & Co may want to have a more formal training program, but they are American heroes just for trying to protect our borders, when neither side of the political spectrum is willing to do what it takes (a fence across our southern and northern borders).

I agree these people are not helping.

What WOULD help, however, is volunteers to build a real barrier along the border.

This is largely private property. The ranchers are tired of stuff getting stolen, fences cut, dangerous thugs (coyotes and drug dealers more so than immigrants, illegal or no) on their property.

Most ranchers would welcome a large, serious, wall/fence, perhaps with accompanying ravine, roads for Immigration to inspect and repair, and places for monitors.

I would like to know what the average field agent thinks instead of some talking head who get instructions from his superior.

I worry about the safety of volunteer citizenry. ON www.americanpatrol.com they post that violence is rising at the border. It does concern me that these volunteers may be in danger.

The average field agent has no problem with it.

That's why they're volunteers. They know it's dangerous, but they are willing to put their life on the line for their country anyway.

"The 19 murderers on Sept. 11 got 63 separate legally issued driver's licenses from five states. They used those to open bank accounts and to get on the plane."

Lest they forget!! UNDISPUTED FACT! And others can sneak in ILLEGALLY across the open border.

It sounds like Sector Chief Michael Nicley does not want competition.

But Mikey competition is the American way.
