The fate of a tenured University of Colorado professor who compared victims of the 9-11 World Trade Center terror attacks to Nazis, while praising the suicide hijackers for their "gallant sacrifices" will be decided at a special meeting of the school's board of regents Thursday night.
In the meantime, Ward Churchill, who yesterday preemptively stepped down as chairman of the Ethnic Studies Department, remains a professor of Ethnic Studies and Coordinator of American Indian Studies at the Colorado school.
The controversy stems from an essay Churchill wrote titled "Some People Push Back: On the Justice of Roosting Chickens," written shortly after the Sept. 11 attacks. In it, he describes the thousands of American victims who died in the World Trade Center inferno as "little Eichmanns" (a reference to notorious Nazi war criminal Adolf Eichmann) who were perpetuating America's "mighty engine of profit." They were destroyed, he added, thanks to the "gallant sacrifices" of "combat teams" that successfully targeted the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon.
The 2001 essay emerged from obscurity onto center stage when Churchill was invited recently to speak at Hamilton College, in Clinton, N.Y., near Syracuse. Hundreds of relatives of Sept. 11 victims are protesting Churchill's appearance at Hamilton, which is scheduled for Thursday. However, the college's president, Joan Hinde Stewart, assured the Associated Press that "however repugnant one might find Mr. Churchill's remarks," the college would honor his right to free speech and the show would go on.

This traitor needs to be dangling from a rope.

Someone needs to look into all these Ethnic Studies courses in colleges across the country. I know a young woman who is majoring in this at U. of WA and the course is nothing more than an affirmative action major to allow minorities to get good enough grades to get into graduate school. One of the courses that the young woman took was entitled Minorities and the Military. It involved writing a paper on the experience of someone in your family with the military (hopefully negative). My guess is that the prof was writing some kind of a book on the subject and collecting stories.
Hey, this is CU we're talking about here. The only way the enrollment would drop 50% is if the Rockies mountains relocated, the liquor stores closed and the female students suddenly got celibacy.
But his "department" might fold. I'd be okay with that.

If tenure is eliminated, there will be mass firing of conservative professors and/or they will be silenced. Are you will to accept that "tradeoff?"
I'm familiar with Ave Maria College as I have relatives in Michigan. I'm a former teacher at a Catholic grade school from way back when nuns still wore the old habits. I've seen many good, a few great, many mediocre, and quite a few lousy teachers in both private and public schools. I firmly believe that much of the blame lies in the concept of tenure, lack of accountability, and poor training. My son and daughter-in-law have asked me to home school my grandchildren if necessary. So far there is a Christian private school nearby that seems to be doing an excellent job. Good thing. I don't know if this Grandma is up to the job any more.
Craun added: "It's a theory; it shouldn't have anything to do with fact."
LOL. That's a good one.
They have their agenda... and they are winning!
Right after I posted the Rabinowitz info, some (right thinking) professor went on O'Reilly exposing the Rabinowitz connection, talking about how many of the 60s radicals are full professors (Doehrn, Ayres, etc.) He had all the facts on the tip of his tongue.
O'Reilly invited him on the show tonight. As such, it might be worth watching.
I saw that. Thanks for posting.
But I have some personal thoughts I plan to share with DeStafano via the phone! I enjoy verbally slapping these so called "educators" around...
He's a punk and we're going to do whatever is necessary to get rid of him!
Point, Game, Set, Match!
Just saw item that his talk at Hamilton is cancelled. Now for that phone call and email campaign to DeStefano: you go girl!!
Just heard local radio WIBX Utica (near Clinton), Professor will not be showing up. Didn't say anymore
I love your style :-)
"you go girl?"
if you check out my tagline, you'll see that I have the wrong plumbing. LOL
no problem, if you saw my Marine mug you wouldn't have made that mistake! LOL
But please, email away and if you have any clout in the edu world, I implore you to use it!

This is the key. The people need to "encourage" their elected representatives in the state legislature to get interested and involved. The school receives state funding. The elitists can blab all they want about "academic freedom", but that does not mean the legislature abdicates it's role in providing and overseeing the disbursement of public funds. If they University insists on supporting clowns like this, maybe a little selective budget cutting can be implemented.
Do you believe with the calls to eliminate tenure (including tenure for the besieged minority of conservative professors)?
