members of the Juárez Cartel unloaded a barrage of automatic weapon fire and hand grenades on southern Sonora police in Ciudad Obregon and Navojoa late Friday. The shooters disappeared into Sinaloa, the Sonora Attorney General's Office said.

Judging by the lack of casualties despite more than 300 rounds fired, the shootings likely were a show of force by the Juárez Cartel rather than a direct attack, said Phil Jordan, former director of the El Paso Intelligence Center and a former DEA agent.

Why is this former agent trying to play down the situation? If this gang had shot up the White House or Congress, I can be certain he would not be playing it down as a 'sign of force'. Why do so many agents and former agents of the government feel a need to apologize for Mexican corruption and maliciousness? I just puzzles me to no end.

Last week, an internal FBI memo warned two specific FBI agents could be kidnapped by an elite group of Mexican army deserters called the Zetas who carry U.S. visas and serve as the paramilitary arm for the Gulf Cartel. News reports stated the memo threatened Zetas may enter the country, seize the agents and execute them in Mexico.

Why are kn own gang member allowed to carry US visas? Why dont we have more control over who has and does not ahve these visas?

This is beyond careless absurdity and is downright suicidal.

Just good-hearted people who attack Border Patrol agents that Americans are too lazy to attack.

A responding team found somebody had shot a remote video surveillance system. Four bullet holes were found in the plastic sheeting covering the solar panels of the system.

Nice to see new tech on the border.

Probably because the bullets were fired at mexican police instead of his guys.

Another reminder that the pittance you paid for that nicely tended yard or discount concrete work wasn't exactly payment in full.

The border is a sieve! Posse Commitatus notwithstanding, we need a strong and armed military presence on our border NOW!

I agree with your statement, but this is the wrong thread. This is about a drug cartel shooting at mexican and US police. Unless your gardner or maid is a drug dealer (which pays so much better than the pittance for mowing lawns), this is not relevant to this thread.

What is not payment in full is the fact that most illegals are not paying their fair share compared to citizens of paying for national defense, interest on the debt., social security and medicare for those who came before us (retired people), etc.

Location, Location, Location. American drug dealers just don't like attacking police on the border, they prefer Baltimore and Washington instead. A talk show host once referred to Baltimore as "crackmore". Americans will do the job of attacking police if the incentive and location is right.

The thread is about border security, right? Why do you suppose we have an unsecured border?

Very interesting. Not pertinent to the intent of my sarcasm, but interesting.

(Aussie voice): The usually nocturnal Prairie Author pops his head from his hole, only to be blinded by the vast array of posts on FR. Watch as he is quickly overwhelmed by his instinctive urge to respond to such juicy subjects as border patrols. We have baited him with reports of shootings only to find his behavior predictably easy, mate. Once he ducks his head back to his hole he may emerge months later with a large wooden object called a novel. It is assumed that these creatures can hibernate for months if need be but the unusually juicy bait we have used can cause them to break their winter habits. We don’t mean to interrupt their habitat but it is bloody interesting to watch.
