This is all just "women are shy, innocent flowers getting plucked by mean, wolfish, men."
It's related to the feminist "all sex is rape" nonsense.
Going back to the in loco parentis of the 1950's in colleges is silly. You hit 18, you are an adult. Deal with the consequences of your actions. If a boy breaks your heart, tough nooggies. If you get knocked up, deal with the consequences. If you get an STD, it's your fault.
When kids turn 18, they are responsible for their own actions.
And when you love someone, e.g., because they're your child (whether they're 18, 25, or 40 is not relevant), you want them to make wise decisions so their actions will have good consequences, not bad ones. And you want them to be supported and upheld in those wise decisions. And you want them to be insulated (to a reasonable degree) from the bad consequences of other people's (e.g., a roommate's) stupid decisions.
Once my kids are 18, they can, indeed, go off and do stupid stuff. But they just shouldn't expect me to support them, financially or otherwise, in their stupidity the way I would if they were doing smart things.
That's just plain common sense.
And, BTW, treating women with respect is the mark of a gentleman. It comes from traditional values, not feminist ones.
