New York police officer injured by Big Mac

AFP: 1/31/2005

NEW YORK, Jan 31 (AFP) - A New York police officer had to be treated for mouth injuries after biting into a Big Mac containing glass shards allegedly placed there by a teenage McDonalds employee.

Police said Albert Garcia, 18, was charged with first degree assault and reckless endangerment following the incident on Saturday at a drive-thru outlet of the burger chain in the Bronx.

The uniformed, on-duty officer, who was driving a marked police car when he placed his order, suffered cuts to his mouth and throat from chewing and swallowing the shards.

Press reports said Garcia was arrested Sunday after an undercover officer, sent to investigate the incident, observed him spitting in a burger being prepared for another policeman.

Can you say, "civil lawsuit" after criminal charges are pursued. Hope their liability insurance is paid up...

18 years old? Put him down, save us all some future suffering. Cops have enough problems without these vicious little terrorist acts. And that's what this is.

I don't know. Based on some of them ingredients, we might as well be eating glass for all the nutritional value contained in food sold at Mickey Dee

Maybe Albert Garcia needs one of those toilet plunger interrogations the NYPD is famous for :-)

In all seriousness, that punk kid needs to spend some time in prison, he will quickly find out what it's like to be on the wrong end of a dirty trick like that

People are fooling themselves if they think fast food workers aren't spitting in their food as well.

Especially if you're between a Big Mac and Michael Moore.

This officer is probably going to have problems for awhile if the glass shards were small enough...could cause long-lasting intestinal complications; serious infection could result. It would be quite difficult to remove all glass particles.

Grrrrr...this makes me SO angry...that little SOB needs his a** KICKED!!

People are fooling themselves if they think their family members aren't spitting in their food prepared at home.

Agreed....and reckless endangerment with first degree assault isn't enough of a charge. It should be attempted murder of a law enforcement officer at the least. Eating glass shards could easily cause deadly complications and the little s.o.b. did it with deliberate malice.

I'll think I have to say this at the drive thru, "I'll order the french fries so please leave out the 'glass shards' for my Big Mac."

I wonder why there are so many food related articles today.

I live in NYC and I tell you, lately alot of these punks are showing up causing a lot of grief for people. I feel taking a bat to their heads these freaking brats. The latest being these punks who shot to death that girl on Rivington st. after trying to rob her and her boyfriend. This is the direct result of having a RINO for Mayor. An absolute putz whose main concern is people who smoke rather than kicking people in the azz who refuse to get their sh*t together, enforcing a curfew like Guiliani did for kids who were found walking the street 3am on a school night. I mean just what exactly were a bunch of teenage punks doing down in the village 3am on a school night playing "rob the lady"? What were where they doing with a loaded gun? Damn I can`t stand this Bloomberg, he is such a fat headed bubble isolated jackass it`s unreal. "Gee whiz, your anti-smoking crusade means you are so concerned about health" Meanwhile I come home from work 2am and I see 13 year old kids yelling and screaming in the streets on a Tuesday. I remember to this day Guiliani getting right up the azz of these parents who allow this, threatening to throw THEM in jail if their kid was caught in the street late at night. Then of course you had those two pricks Susan Sarandon and Tim Robbins literally jumping out of their limos the next day at the latest "Guiliani is a Hitler" protest.
