>>>I imagine they meant gang in the stricter sense of being an identified gang (Bloods, Crips, Mexican Mafia, etc.), rather than the loose sense of being a group of criminals<<<
I call them all punks, what kinda punk makes little difference.
Heard that they make good Fertilizer...

The expert you mention might be Gavin DeBecker. I've read one of his books on personal protection & crime. It was
great. I can recommend it very strongly -- anyone who reads it can feel a lot more relaxed about potential trouble. You'll know what you need to know if the time ever comes.

"brothers ages 17 and 21, were questioned in the killing but not charged after telling detectives they were shocked when Mr. Fleming pulled the trigger."
Yeah I was wondering the same thing. Seems these two were in on the earlier mugging. They should be tried as accomplices. Stating that they were 'shocked' is more than disingenuous.

LOL..........that's a good one! :-)

I find it hard to believe they're not going to charge the entire crew.
It is NYC, however.

Is this what you served 74 months in prison for?

Here's the original thread on the crime the morning it went down:
ACTRESS SLAIN
Lots of interesting positions taken by FReepers. Worth a read if you haven't. Also contains a lot of good advice, from those more street savy, regarding effective (and ineffective) self-defense.

It time that those who approve paroles be held responsible when their parolee commits more crimes.

The Post used to be one of the great old timey papers...every once in awhile it shows glimmers of its old self.

Most of the time it shows far more than just a glimmer;however, they've now made the Sunday edition almost unreadable.

I thought my past was Violent, this thread has shown me a few FReepers that have been there as well. Which City are we talking about with the Race Baiters? (I will bet it is an enlightened Blue one)

Nah, typical Post headline,

Baruch and Riis Houses used to have the highest per capita of full-blown AIDS cases in the city.
Not HIV. AIDS.

You mean the photogs? It was NYC. But they did it in virtually all the states. Long standing tradition. Now they do it to celebs, though in a milder form.

I find myself reading the Sun these days. The Post doesn't have the fun it used to have. Neutered.

Did you ever read Ben Hecht's writings on his journalism experience? Gross and kneeslapping funny at once, particularly the story of him having to steal a photo from the mantlepiece.

They did some fun Lizzie Grubman stuff when they story was going. They were giving away a Lizzie-mobile, if you remember.

"That's the NYT style, which in the past has included, Mr. Hitler and Mr. Loaf (as in Meat Loaf)."
And don't forget my personal fave: the much maligned Mr. Rotten, speaking of Johnny Rotten.
Yes, the Times used to be something, now unfortunately it is nothing but fish wrap.

No, never a Hecht fan -- not for any particular reason, just never got into him. But I do love The Front Page.
