Given all our vulnerabilities to disease and malfunction, I'd say the creator was a poor engineer. The evidence therefore points to

SD or Stupid Design

The origional design may not have been vunerable to disease and malfuntion. Those came from environmental effects.(after the fall of man)

You must be incredibly brilliant to judge the universe, how it works, and how it was created so succintly. I'm quite impressed.

Someday I'm afraid this cute little post of yours is going to burn in your mind.

Right. Specific examples: the knee and the lower back.

Are you an engineer who can design something that lasts as long, reproduces itself with out skilled labor (old joke), builds fantastic machines, creates art, reaches for the stars and continues to question it's own very existence??? And don't go starting arguments between engineers and scientists! :-)

Could be that MAN brought this all on himself. Matter of fact I believe the Bible, at the very least, hints of that. God gave you volition and if you want to make love to another man, don't bitch when you get AIDS. (not you personally)

You're assuming the Creator intended your physical body to live forever. Seeing how arrogant some people can become in just one little short life span (not directed at you), which is nothing more than the blink of an eye, I'm not surprised that the Creator didn't intend that.

This is simply the reverse of the creationist argument that X is so complex it could not have evolved. Instead, you say, Y is so poorly designed, it must have evolved.

The problem with the first example is that complexity is not prohibited by evolution. Irreducible complexity is.

The problem with the second example is that it presupposes knowledge of the purpose of the designer.

If the designer's purpose was to keep populations in check, then disease and malfunction are actually good design choices.

Actually, I think you are making a valid point. IDers are not only trying to dress up a religious/philosophical position in science, they are making a value judgment.

"Given all our vulnerabilities to disease and malfunction, I'd say the creator was a poor engineer. "

Unless, of course, creation became corrupted. But only Christians subscribe to that concept and they are all stupid......, so that little bump in the road has now been seriously addressed.

It is better to see physical disease and death and learn from it and avoid spiritual disease and death, than it is to simply die spiritually never having a clue of what hit you.

Given all our vulnerabilities to disease and malfunction...

I know. You'd think that even if He wanted us to get diseases to keep the herd thinned, He'd at least design us with teeth that don't rot and eyesight that remains clear throughout life.

And what's the point of Alzheimers and dementia. Why rob us of our memories and capacity to care for ourselves in our old age?

And why make it so that children get fatal diseases? Why not just make it so that only middle aged and older people get sick. Give everyone minimum of 25-30 good, happy, healthy years on the planet. Then let the physical deterioration begin. And when it's time for us to leave, just pull the plug. Boom!

Since the whole point is to eventually go back to God, why make us with an emotional response to death that we call grief? What's that about? If death is a return to God, shouldn't it be a cause for celebration?

Why? Why? Why?

but of course, we have never heard of the quaint notion that the universe itself may have suffered a huge shock so that every area, from morals to academics is in cosmic revolt against the creator, and that this state of warfare has cosmological implications as well.....
and the REASON we have never heard of such ideas???, why we are SCIENTISTS and haven't time for such rubbish.......

If you want some close minded ignorant know nothings, go to a rural fundamentalist church......., or walk into a community of biologists. Same ignorant pretentions to knowledge, same utter ignorance of the weaknesses of their own positions and critiques of their positions by others, and the same close minded religious zealotry and commitment to casting out the "infidels" from among them.
