Minimum wage isn't the issue; ILLEGAL immigration is.

Uh Rush made the minimum wage the issue, I didn't.

"And you're a one-trick pony."

Guess you didn't follow the links.

So go ahead and listen to a "right wing talk show host"
who has no respect the 58,000 + names on The Wall.

And no respect for
U.S. Constitution Amendment 14 Sec 3

I don't know about anybody else, but I quit watching
Main Stream Right Wing Media
and listening to Main Stream Right Wing Radio
shortly after Nov 3.

I couldn't understand how the so called
Main Stream Right Wing Media
could say things like
"Senator Kerry was gracious in his concession speech..."
"Senator Kerry was so honorable..."
Etc

The two go hand-in-hand.

They avail themselves of our resources, travel our highways and roads and other infrastructure. You and I foot the bills

To be fair, they do pay the gas taxes(which builds and maintains the infrastructure) and sales taxes.

If they are driving their car, truck or van which they own, they are paying the gas taxes that pay into the highway and road upkeep.

Guest workers do not pay income taxes.

That's something that can be changed in any guest worker reform.

Bush probably will NOT do the right thing on immigration ever because most of the illegal immigration comes from Spanish-speaking countries. He prides himself on being a fluent Spanish speaker (the first American president to be such), some members of his family have married into the Hispanic community (where it is more likely to be a political negative for a politician to speak against illegal immigration), and he's trying to win the Hispanic vote for the Republican Party. All these factors let me have a pretty good idea as to why he chooses this insanity, and I don't see that he's ever going to change on this issue.

I don't know what Rush says but IMO the illegal immigration is a huge problem and must be addressed if we are to continue to live under the rule of law. I believe the first step is enforcement of current laws with no Amnesty till that occurs.
Any politician who can own that issue will be electable.

Don't misunderstand me, 'leftist hypocrites' was referring to the Hollywood actors who signed that ad posted by Dane.

I think Limbaugh is exactly right...GW may be triangulating the party out of its base voters. The Right is more finicky I think, although it happened to the Dems with Ralph Nader when Clinton/Gore became a defended of the establishment status quo.

Like I said, I refuse to listen to Rush.

The enemy is within the US Senate and Rush doesn't realize it.

How could what he says about ANYTHING else possibly matter.

Exactly, and that's why any call to him to do something about the problem will fall on deaf ears.

Therefore our only recourse will be congress and state initiatives.

The Bush team will lose, and lose big, on this one.

We talk a lot about low-wage aliens, but we're also siphoning off our brainpower. Graduate schools, especially in engineering, are shockingly dominated by foreign nationals. Something like 45% of the PhD's earned in the U.S. are to people who have citizenship elsewhere (and I doubt all of them stay here after conferral.)

Bob Sensenbrenner's (R-WI) son is the head of College Republicans at my school. He can't be happy with the Prez divebombing his immigrant-check bills.

Why would an illegal want to become a "legal" guest worker and pay income taxes, when he could remain illegal and not pay income taxes?

You are avoiding the question, so I'll rephrase...

Do you agree that illegal immigration should be stopped?

I honestly believe they're two separate issues. I don't think it's America's mission to provide jobs at any specific wage to any immigrant, nor do I believe that it's an immigrant's "right" to come here and be provided with conveniences and a "comfortable" wage.

Dozens of millions of us, myself included, are descendants of legal immigrants who came to this, the blessed land of unprecedented *opportunity*, to seek freedom and a better life. That's the exquisite treasure of America .. that all the opportunities imaginable are available to those who legally come here to a free country for a *chance* at a better life than they had in the "old country." That it could be a reality was up to them.

And, as my family and millions of others have done and are doing, they were and are willing to work hard, sacrifice, stick together and help each other, and save to build a future in this free land for their children.

There were no "gifts" like food stamps, free health care, monthly housing and sustenance payments and MORE .. that immigrants expect today and that the politicians are all too willing to hand out (for potential votes), and for which WE pay. Now, somehow, they're "entitled" to get an American driver's license??

All the while, we're working around the clock to fight the WOT and to protect our borders from the evil that's been promised us, on alert every time the next "watch-listed" thug is suspected to have crossed over the Mexican border. Our Border Patrol have their hands tied, for fear of "offending" an illegal alien. It's utter craziness!!

God Bless my grandparents, on both sides, who came here legally, with nothing, and brought forth goodness from their goodness and sometimes brutally hard work and exhausting days, to America ... where opportunities abound for those brave enough to seek it and sturdy enough to work .. and work damn hard for it. Between both sides, they brought 12 American children into this world. I, and the succeeding family generations, are mighty proud of and grateful for their courage, self-sufficiency, perseverance and accomplishments. Because they earned it, we were lucky enough to be born Americans.

All of America will lose if Congress fails to listen to the voters.
