BUFFALO -- Sen. Hillary Clinton collapsed during an appearance here Monday before delivering a speech on Social Security.

Colleen DiPirro, president of the Amherst Chamber of Commerce, told WBEN-AM radio that Clinton told the crowd she was feeling weak and had had a stomach virus. Clinton started to speak then collapsed, DiPirro told the radio station.

Clinton, 57, was scheduled to speak today at a Catholic college despite protests from anti-abortion groups and reluctance from the Catholic diocese. She was expected to discuss health care, not her pro-choice stance on abortion -- the cause of the protesters' anger.

Several hundred people were waiting to hear that address. There were also hundreds of pro-life protesters waiting at the college.

Clinton's lecture was scheduled to be on "Corporal Works of Mercy" in government. WBEN reported on its Website. The radio station also said Catholic Charities had originally signed-on as a sponsor for the Canisius College lecture series, but dropped out when it was learned Clinton would take part. Clinton is a vocal supporter of choice when it comes to abortion. Protestors complain her liberal views on abortion should not be welcomed at a Catholic University.

Clinton was not being paid for her lecture, and she did not plan on discussing abortion as part of her lecture, WBEN said.

The Buffalo News on Friday reported that the Catholic bishop of Buffalo, The Most Rev. Edward U. Kmiec, was not pleased that Canisius College invited Clinton to campus but that he was allowing her to speak Monday at the Catholic school.

He said the invitation had been made without input from the diocese, and that the offices of Church Ministry and Catholic Charities had pulled their sponsorship of the lecture.

In September, her husband, former Pres. Bill Clinton, 58, underwent quadruple bypass surgery.

Is the country ready for a female president, especially one who passes out?

Sounds like a "diplomatic illness", to avoid Canesius.

How does abortion have nothing to do with Social Security? We have 60 million less people paying into the system!
