ORLANDO, Fla.--In the aftermath of 9/11, conservatives bottled up their frustrations over some of President Bush's policies. Then they muted their criticism during the presidential campaign. But now it is spilling out in all directions--and the White House had better pay attention.
On Friday Rush Limbaugh, a staunch Bush supporter, took two separate opportunities to warn the president that he faced conservative opposition on some key issues that could hurt his chances of passing the rest of his second-term agenda. First was federal spending, which "is surging out of control," according to the Heritage Foundation's new "Mandate for Leadership." The other was immigration, which, Mr. Limbaugh told his listeners, "could break up the Republican-conservative coalition" à la Ross Perot. "We cannot maintain our sovereignty without securing and protecting our borders in an era where terrorists around the world seek entry to this country," he said.

And now we get to the good stuff.
Totally agree with Rush on these 2 issues.
The Republicans need to realize who got them elected, and re-elected. Conservatives will bolt from the party (or stay home) if the Republicans don't listen. Then we'll get a Democrat, the worst of all worlds.
Get back to me when hillary condemns this ad(she won't, but you all will lick up the sour milk she is pushing).
I honestly thought Bush would take a hard line on securing the boarder after the election. I am still waiting, but starting to doubt him on this issue. This issue should be a no brainer.
Rush is echoing National Review's recent cover story on this issue.
"Search" is our friend. This was posted only an hour and a half ago.
Dane, I think you are right on both counts. In my own assessments and evaluations, there's something larger going on. Can't put my finger on it quite yet. President Bush is no fool, we know that... so I'm watching his policies and statements very closely. And as a member of the won-but-stolen-CA-Prop-187 (illegal immigration reform), I've learned much. Some conservatives are arguing that the Bush Administration is doing very little wr to illegal immigration. I disagree. President Bush promised to track the terrorists, no matter where they reside, and how they got to where they reside.
Some early morning dishonesty from the FR open borders lobby.
Thank you for confessing to your crimes. you shall now all be indicted.
It is imperative that conservatives hold the party's feet to the fire lest they succumb to the pressure to buy off interest groups in search of a greater plurality. Over the long term, the Republicans will live or die based on the economic security of the country, and that will require some politically difficult belt tightening in the next few years. I pray the Congress has the guts for it because the White House has shown no inclination toward fiscal restraint.
.. and thanks for posting the Hollywood Socialist crowds' blather. They haven't a clue, and I look forward to the endgame results.
Then why did you read it again!!!!!!????????? Just move on.
The list is the usual list of morons.
The hell they don't. Can you say 'Motor-Voter', the brainchild of the 'toon administration?
Interesting.
This is the first time I have heard Rush stray from Bush, at least in a long while. I remember a little over a year ago Bush floated trial balloons for amnesty and the guest worker program. Many in the GOP were outraged because even though getting more of the Hispanic vote is important, having an open border policy during wartime is utter madness. In fact, I specifically remember Rush saying that Bush was principled and it made me take his show with a grain of salt even since.
The spending has also gotten out of control and it is a major problem now. Many people have swallowed their opinions on spending because we are in a war on terror. However, we have a better grip on things and its time to get fiscally conservative again. Otherwise, you may hand the democrats one of the few weapons they have, although we all know they would spend more on worthless government programs like fisting workshops.
Mr. Kobylt says talk radio has tasted blood on the immigration issue and he expects other hosts around the country to now pick up on the issue. "Republicans are in bed with businesses who like low labor costs, and Democrats have this socialist bent," he says. "But the taxpayers in this country cannot be responsible for a corrupt, bankrupt country like Mexico. We should start throwing employers in jail, a few fat rich white guys in prison."
Approaches like that, or Pat Buchanan's idea of a reverse Berlin Wall, are neither desirable or politically possible to implement.
And why exactly is that ? What is undesirable about putting chronic lawbreakers in jail ? Shouldn't rich white people have to obey the law, too ? Hasn't the experience of the last decade shown that when you target career criminals, crime overall drops sharply ?
