Fatal shooting follows near fender-bender 14-year-old boy dies; man critically wounded 05:09 PM CST on Sunday, January 30, 2005 By IAN McCANN and TANYA EISERER / The Dallas Morning News

A 14-year-old boy was fatally shot and his stepfather critically wounded Sunday afternoon after nearly being involved in a traffic accident in a parking lot, police said.

The names of the shooting victims were not released.

The shooting happened about 2 p.m. Sunday in a busy parking lot shared by Mexican restaurant, a bus depot and a flea market.

According to police, the stepfather and teenager were headed south in the parking lot in the 3300 block of West Davis Street when their Chevrolet Blazer almost collided with a small silver car.

The person driving the silver car stopped, pulled a rifle out of the car and fired a shot at the Blazer.

The bullet went into the driver’s side window, struck the driver and then his stepson, who was in the passenger seat.

They drove to their nearby home in the 3700 block of Mount Royal Street and called police.

Police were continuing to investigate Sunday.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Dallas Police Homicide Unit at 214-671-3661.

Even I don't believe you should be able to shoot people at random.

Huh?

This is insane. It was a parking lot for goodness sake. It's not like it was a near-fatal miss on a major highway. Not saying THAT would be justification for firing at someone either. Never acceptable.
Can someone say "over-reaction" on the part of the silver car driver?
Why is the perp carrying a loaded rifle in his car anyway?

Ever hear of the concept of being "dissed"? In some areas of this country "dissing" someone carries the death penalty.

Not in Texas but anything can happen in that part of town.

Inevitable when people on the road forget how to be polite.

Your feeble attempt to explain this horror as mere "dissing" is somewhat lacking. My only hope is that your response is of the sarcastic mode.

What the F's wrong with you? A 14-year-old kid goes to the freaking mall with his dad, and that's his last day on earth. You owe some penance, Dude.

Hoping the father got the plate number since they were able to drive to their nearby home and call police.

It's ovious that the perp is fresh in this country and that he doesn't understand that the way things are done south of the border isn't the way we do things here. But all he has to do is get back across the border and he's scott free.</diversity tolerance>

"Sunday in a busy parking lot shared by Mexican restaurant, a bus depot and a flea market. "

Sounds like a joke in there. . .but darned if I can't find it.

(Yes. . .yes. . .it is not a joking matter but sometimes things just sounds that way)

I think you're misunderstanding. Huntsville is where the executions take place in Texas.

So the term "Huntsville Flatliners Club."

Flatline as in "dead"

I'ts very possible he's a homeboy too considering the majority of the population in that area of town.

I'm not misunderstanding at all, but thanks. The remark was callous, unthinking, and amazingly unsympathetic. Creeps did it--likely, bangers or worse--but that kid, next to his daddy, was an innocent victim, I don't care what he did yesterday or what he might do...oh, wait, his tomorrow is gone, isn't it?

Doesn't quite sound like the high rent district.
