The Threat Matrix

The title refers to a daily report given to the president of the United States detailing the most serious terrorist threats against the country. To tackle those threats, the government has formed a top-notch task force to infiltrate the terror cells and cut off the danger.

"Every morning, the president receives a list of the top ten terrorist threats - this list is known as the threat matrix."

We here at FR are trying to be in conjunction with the daily reports around the world that involve threats. We try to provide a storehouse of information that takes hours of research.

Some American Mosques Carry Extremist Tracts, Study Says
Full Story

WASHINGTON -- Mosques across the U.S. continue to carry books and pamphlets describing non-Muslims as "infidels" and promoting intolerance against Western society, according to a forthcoming study by Freedom House, a U.S. human-rights group.

Despite vows from American Islamic leaders after Sept. 11, 2001, to proselytize peacefully, New York based Freedom House researchers found 57 documents with incendiary material in more than a dozen mosques and Islamic centers in six states and Washington, D.C., visited over the past year.

"Kachman declined to disclose the trailer's contents, citing the an ongoing investigation."

Instead of quelling fear about the trailer's contents, they've upped the ante and it appears just about anything could have been in that trailer (from twinkies to toxic chemicals).

Either I'm experiencing deja vu or we've heard this before.

Pakistan denies CIA agents engaged in local hunt for bin Laden
28 February 2005

ISLAMABAD - Pakistan on Monday denied a report that CIA agents were searching for Al Qaeda terror network chief Osama bin Laden on its soil.

“No CIA agent is operating in Pakistan to track down Osama bin Laden and all anti-terror operations are being carried out by our own security agencies,” foreign ministry spokesman Masood Khan told a press briefing in Islamabad.

He also contradicted a US Congressional report that CIA agents are working in Pakistan as part of the anti-terror drive and in the hunt for bin Laden.

Spokesman Khan’s remarks came three days after President General Pervez Musharraf expressed satisfaction over the arrest of nearly 700 mostly foreign Al Qaeda suspects in Pakistan in the past three years,

He told leading intellectuals and newspaper columnists last week that terrorists and extremists operating in the porous Pakistan-Afghan border region had been cut down to size.

“There are still a few left, but they are on the run, but what matters is that we have broken the backbone of their entire structure,” he said.

Abu Zubaida, Ramzi bin al-Shibh, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, Mohammad Naeem Noor, Ahmed Khalfan al-Ghailani, and Adil Al-Jazeeri have been among the main catches by Pakistani and US security forces, mostly in sting operations in different parts of the country.

Pakistani security forces got involved in the massive manhunt for Al Qaeda terrorists after the rout of the radical Afghan Taleban regime in late 2001, and have meanwhile moved into such border regions which were treated as no-go areas before the war on terror began in December that year.

In Wana, the administrative headquarters of the remote South Waziristan region, Pakistani troops seized or killed more than 174 foreign militants, mostly Uzbeks, Arabs and Chechens in 44 different operations last year.

Led by the United States, the international community has since been helping Pakistan increase its anti-terrorist capacity in personnel and equipment.

...several applications for blaster of explosives licenses contained either stolen or fictitious Social Security numbers...

Unbelievable that explosives would actually be released to ANYONE without a thorough background investigation and approved documents setting forth their competency to use such explosives. Providing a social security card alone is not indicative the person(s) obtaining the explosives have any business handling it whatsoever. Someone's job should be on the line for this lapse in licensing protocol.

I want to thank you all for the warm wishes and the prayers. I had the biopsy this morning, and a metal marker was inserted, which makes me a little nervous.

Now, it is in God's hands. I will know the outcome late Wednesday afternoon.

The caring, concern, and genuine compassion, along with the well wishes, personal stories, and most of all the prayers from everyone here has been very overwhelming, and has brought a few tears.

I love you guys (and gals)....you all made it a little easier dealing with this! Thank you all from the bottom of my heart!

Interesting article, thanks all4one.

I agree MamaD. My husband used to have his explosives license. The initial paperwork for obtaining the license was quite extensive, much more than just a SS#, although there was no proof of competency required. The renewal process was almost as extensive as the initial process.

Missile Launcher Installed in D.C. Suburb
Mon Feb 28 2005 20:46:09 ET

A large, drab green missile launcher aimed vigilantly skyward has become one of the more distinctive landmarks in the Washington suburb of Bethesda, Md.

The launcher claims a commanding position on the lawn at the U.S. Naval Surface Warfare Center's Carderock facility, a science and engineering center overlooking the Potomac River, the WASHINGTON POST will report on Tuesday.

The six non-nuclear missiles in the launcher could ``counter an inbound threat.''

Opinions about the upscale neighborhood's newest security system have varied.
