That old "union" "I deserve" attitude is out-dated.

No one FORCES you to work at Wal-Mart. I'm sorry that I sound insensitive, but the job belongs to the employer, NOT the employee.

Long gone are the days where you are "entitled" to earn a good wage putting stuff on shelves that anyone else can do.

Wal-Mart provides good opportunity for the kids around here paying their way or saving up for college. If you think that working as a "stock person" is a career move, then you will get that sort of "career pay".

I hear the same argument about evil "Mc Donalds". C'mon, give me a break. Even in the fifties, or the sixties, or the seventies, or eighties, did anyone REALLY expect to be paid enough money from a fast food stand to support a family and buy a luxury house and a luxury car on?

It would appear from some in the media that years ago, these jobs paid enough to send you and your kids to Europe on vacation three times a year, pay for a third car, and send your entire family to college.

They did not, never did, never will. Its a non-skilled job, and it will pay non-skilled wages.

How about other jobs? About 10 years ago I was working for a large telecommunication firm located in midwest on a project that involved bringing in house a software application that had been vendor supported. We had to find people with expertise in a particular software language and database, ones which Walmart also used. We went to a contacting company to find 6 people to bring in on a contract-for-hire, and they found 6 people willing to throw over life in Bentonville for the bright lights of the big city. Well, the folks down there in Walmartland didn't appreciate that and it went up to the CEO level where David Glass and our CEO were personal friends. Shortly after the 6 came on board word filtered down that we were not under any circumstances to look at any candidate who were working at Walmart. Walmart's way of easing their problem of attracting people to Bentonville, I guess.

Anyway, that's one of the reasons why I don't shop at Walmart or Sam's Club, along with the shoddy quality, dirty stores, unfriendly staff, etc., etc.

Obviously you are either paid to post by Wal-Mart or never shop there. Few employees are young most are middle to old age. They are not in their first job.

Wal-Mart may well bring back Unions. Unions ended because the Bosses ran and run the Unions as if they were Mafia Bosses. Perhaps someone can create a new good Union.

Personally I believe laws can reform Wal-Mart. Maryland is getting started by requiring all Employers to contribute 8% of payroll to Medical Insurance. Raise the Minimum wage and a few other things and Wal-Mart may once again achieve Sam's Vision.
