No, I defended letting the states decide what purposes they wished to accomplish by their issuance of driver's liciences and how they want to accomploish that.
I would argue the same thing with respect to marriage licenses, fishing licenses, food service licenses, etc...
If the federal government wants to have a national picture identification card, that is one issue. But for the Federal government to decide that instead of a national ID card they will simply use the hunting licenses issued by the states, then we raise the issues of who gets to say who is entitled to a hunting license, for what period of time, for which type game, using what type weapons, with which limits, etc...
