Burlington woman has became the first in Vermont to be charged with a bizarre computer crime.
The alleged high-tech caper involved identity theft, harassment, and an attempt to make a co-worker look like a lunatic, according to police.
"Yeah, I think, you know, people thought I was off my rocker for a while," said Jeanne Landau, the alleged victim. She says she was shocked and scared last fall when friends accused her of sending threatening e-mails to a co-worker.

Harassment lawsuits are big money makers ask Bill ORielly who may have been innocent.People do get reprimanded and fired for the slightest perception of impropriety.

when friends accused her of sending threatening e-mails to a co-worker.It does happen....someone was sending freepmails from me to another freeper.....but I happened not to be on FR at the time it took place.
People can spoof the system..

Was someone using your computer? It shouldn't be possible to use your screen name unless they have your password, or unless they access FR with a computer on which you have already logged in.

"Anything that you do on that computer no matter if you've deleted it or whatever you've done, we will recover that information and we will find out if you've done this," said Detective Sgt. Tisdel That's a bit of a stretch Sargent.

Bill ORielly who may have been innocent. If he was, he would have never settled. She had him on tape and he was screwed! You never settle with a liar!

I am not an ORielly fan as he has been way too pompous. The truth is companies settle questionable lawsuits daily. It is easier to pay then litigate. The legal process bring all sort of nasty details that none of us like to hear. There is a decent chance that ORielly may have been innocent and cut his costs.
Read about his accusers lifestyle and you might have second thoughts.

A program that writes/re-writes 12 times (of nonsense or random characters) over the disk. It passes Department of Defense guidlines for secure delete.

It's a program that overwrites empty space on your disk with random 0s and 1s twelve times.
If you delete all the files you want gone, then defragment your disk, then run a 12 pass wipe there's no way on Gods green earth anyone can recover that data.

Read about his accusers lifestyle and you might have second thoughts. Only thing I remember reading was she had him on tape! She could be a nickle hooker, but Mr.Talking points on tape harrassing women would have been instant end to credibility in his Twilight "No Spin" Zone! Remember he called her a liar and said that he would fight her in court. When she said she had him on tape, he settled in a couple of weeks!
