We can't even protect our own embassy. How sad. Donald Rumsfeld should be court marshalled just for being stupid.

I hope so. The weeks after the election will be ripe for major offensives against the insurgents, who will be exposing themselves trying to disrupt the process.

Hang on tight, folks. I think the next 24 hours are going to be the worst in months.

U.S. Embassy in Baghdad Hit by Rocket, Two Dead

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - A rocket hit the U.S. embassy inside Baghdad's fortified Green Zone on Saturday, killing two people and wounding at least six, a diplomatic source said.

The rocket struck after dark on the eve of Iraq (news - web sites)'s elections. An explosion could be heard across the city center and sirens sounded in the Green Zone shortly after the blast. A U.S. embassy official confirmed the blast.

"It was a rocket. Two people are dead and at least six are wounded," a diplomatic source said.

Throw in that bum Bremer too. Why in hell they sent the old army and police on their merry way is beyond me.

Rocket or mortar? Most likely mortar because a rocket basically requires line of sight.

Not necessarily. We used to get 120mm rockets that were launched by using a simple support made of bamboo and a battery to launch them. Inaccurate, but that was 35 years ago and I am certain the Iraqis are better at that than the Viet Cong were.

Worst for who?

Will probably be the Tet Offensive of Iraq. You can bet a lot of insurgents will get ambushed by snipers and whatnot on the way to targets; I'm sure they'll suffer massive casualties, potentially backbreaking.

All depends on how the media spins it though.

Hmmm....well, I haven't fought the VC and you have, but I would rather take on Iraqi insurgents than VC, from what I can see. The VC had more experience than these guys. And the Vietnamese have had a much longer and more effective warrior tradition than the Arabs have recently.
