DAVOS, Switzerland (Reuters) - Palestinian leaders warned their Israeli counterparts on Friday that a new spirit of cooperation between the Middle East foes would endure only if Israel's Gaza pullout was linked to a final peace settlement. ....

Israeli Vice Prime Minister Shimon Peres, whose more dovish Labour Party this month joined a national unity government with Sharon's right-wing Likud, said he was surprised and impressed by Abbas' rapid implementation of security measures in Gaza.

"This is the first time someone has taken on leadership and in a few days changed the entire atmosphere," Peres said of Abbas. "All of a sudden there is a meeting of minds and moods."

I thought it interesting to note that the word Peres in the KJV Bible means "Thy kingdom is divided, and given to the Medes and Persians." As written on the wall in King Belshazzer's palace. Daniel 5:28

Meanwhile, Jihadwatch reports:

Hamas celebrates landslide victory in first ever local elections in Gaza

Gaza votes for jihad terror. From AFP, with thanks to Teri:

GAZA CITY (AFP) - The radical Islamist movement Hamas was celebrating a landslide victory in the first ever local elections in the Gaza Strip, winning 77 out of the 118 seats up for grabs, election commission sources said.

The mainstream Fatah faction of Palestinian Authority president Mahmud Abbas won just 26 seats while independents and minor parties won the remaining 15 slots in 10 municipalities across the territory in Thursday's election....

Hamas had campaigned on a strong anti-corruption ticket, amid widespread disillusionment among voters about the incompetence and cronyism which has characterised many councils.

Abbas has vowed a crackdown on corruption and to implement sweeping reforms of the Palestinian institutions but the results in Gaza appear to indicate that voters do not trust the establishment party to put its own house in order.

Mushir al-Masri, a spokesman for Hamas, said the results were a damning indictment of the levels of institutional corruption.

"This means that the Palestinian people reject corruption and hope for change to protect its interests," he told AFP.

Reject corruption, choose jihad.

If the Palestinians really wanted peace they would have secured long ago. Unfortunately, one cannot trust the Pali's at their word.

Until the PLA aggressively pursues and destroys the terrorist groups within their borders, nothing will change.

It really is that simple.

Good post ThunderChief. Peres is the Isreali equivalent of john kerry...game for any treasonous deal. In the remote event that anything positive actually develops at this time in the middle east which I doubt, it will only serve to dramatize the stupidity of the US and western europe in keeping the vermin arafart alive these past 3 decades.
