If this is the same cemetery I'm thinking of, and it certainly fits the description, a well-used local road splits it in the middle. Supposedly, the blacks were buried on one side and whites the other... very depressing! The white side has the marble angel statue that was referenced often in Thomas Wolfe's Look Homeward Angel.
