The world is more like a prison yard than a school yard. For those who are young here is some advice about life.
1. If they have a gun shut your mouth.
2. Don't make eye contact..this goes for wild animals.
3. BE NICE!
4. And in the corporate world remember..the a$$ you diss today may be producing the crap you have to eat later.

My Aikido instructor taught me the opposite, not making contact and looking down or away shows weakness and victim status, easy prey. This couple's problem was letting their guards down and no means of proper defense.

This totally depends on the type of animal. It does go for bears and dogs - direct eye contact is seen as a threat. However for wild cats (cougars here, lions and tigers etc elsewhere) it is essential to maintain direct eye contact.
