I'm with you. The only way it's going to be feasible is with nuclear power. And if all you're doing is generating hydrogen, you can probably keep the facilities away from population centers, where they tend to spook people.

Both! Both ! The most efficient way of processing hydrogen is thru ELECTROLYSIS. Build more nukes use the electric power that generate during the day for industry and consumers. During the night when the load decreases significantly, process hydrogen. This is currently moving forward. Pilot plants are being developed by U.S. companies in South Africa. It may take a decade or more before you see this happening in the U.S.
