Having read the full story, I'd say my point still stands. Nelson has made no commitment whatever, except to listen.
And even at that, it sounds like he'll be hard to bring aboard. Especially telling, perhaps, is his professed view that his constituents in Nebraska have no interest in reforming Social Security. This may well be true. And moderate Dems tend to want cover from their constituents (or to need pressure from their constituents) on those rare occasions when they work with us.
