At 10 a.m. two Saturdays ago a group of 50 men and women stood in front of Redondo Beach city hall at the corner of Pacific Coast Highway and Diamond Street waving signs and urging passing cars to honk. A few were from Redondo Beach, but most had come from elsewhere to show support for the citys arrests of day laborers.
More broadly, they came to show support for what they believe is a state under siege. The group calls itself SaveOurState. On its website, founder Joseph Turner sums up what they are trying to save the state from one section shows photos of day laborers standing on street corners under a banner called Mexifornia and asks, Arent you tired of watching your state turn into a third world cesspool right before your eyes?

The Reverend Bhagavan Friend of Redondo Beach said that his own grandparents were immigrants from Bohemia, but they waited five years in order to immigrate legally. It is true that we are all descended from immigrants, one way or the other, he said. Its a question if you do it the legal way and the right way or illegal way and the wrong way.
