Bull. This one is likely as bogus as the Gallagher (sp?) case. She was hired as an expert, not paid to promote. All they have is the Armstrong case. What they do not have are liars making up stories (NYTIMES) or partisans forging documents for stories the "believe" to be otherwise true. Nor do they have lame excuses like the pressure to be first made them do it, even though it was a story they'd been working on for FIVE years.

The gov't hires contract labor from experts all the time. There is no scandal in that.

Maggie Gallagher was paid for specific work, not bribed to fabricate an opinion and use her column to promote that opinion.

"I was not paid to promote marriage. I was paid to produce particular research and writing products (articles, brochures, presentations), which I produced. My lifelong experience in marriage research, public education and advocacy is the reason HHS hired me.

A Question of Disclosure

The Democrats do it all the time, it's business as usual... Repubs do it, it is criminal...

Large segments of the Clinton Administration lied to the American people time and time again as part of official policy - and it was downplayed by the media as either lies about sex, lies about personal matters, or lies in response to a right-wing witch hunt.

The Bush Administration simply follows intel on Iraqi WMDs that is in agreement with just about every foreign intel agency AND is also in agreement with intel assesments during the Clinton Administration - and they are branded as liars.

It's our burden - we will always be held to a much higher standard than the Dems. But it's also one reason why we have been kicking donkey rump for the last three elections.

Maggie Gallagher: "It is not uncommon for researchers, scholars, or experts to get paid by the government to do work relating to their field of expertise. Nor is it considered unethical or shady: if anything, government funded work is considered a mark of an expert’s respectability. Until today, researchers and scholars have not generally been expected to disclose a government-funded research project in the past, when they later wrote about their field of expertise in the popular press or in scholarly journals."

The only difference in paid Republican journalists and paid democrat jopurnalists is that the paid democrat journalists don't get ratted out, because it is democrats doing the ratting.

Yeah, wake me when something really good happens (like Sandy Berger...wait, not that...like George Soros...wait, no one cared about that either...like Dan Rather...

You can't stand on the moral high ground if you won't clean your own yard.

Folks shouldn't be excusing what is unethical, and perhaps illegal, behavior. Historically what has seperated Conservatives from Liberals is that when our people do bad things, we punish them.

PEOPLE MUST BE FIRED OVER THIS.

In this administration? Are you kidding? They'll get promotions, or at minimum, shiny medals pinned on their chests.

As it's shaping up, you are demonstrating very little in the way of "obvious mental discriminating ability" on this subject.

Repeat after me: "John Kerry would be as effective as George Bush in pushing through the conservative agenda."

Ha ha ha ha ha ha - one big fat UNTRUTH!

Pathetic... Ronald Reagan never had the heart to fire anyone either, but he had Nancy to do his dirty work.

May I nominate you for the "Jaded poster of the day" award?

I think you may have missed a 'left' a little ways back: www.democratunderground.com

That still IS what separates Conservatives from Liberals. We are talking about the current administration's HHS department...who said anything about conservatives?
