Navy photos of Submarine USS San Francisco in Dry Dock (you won't believe the extent of damage!)

The amount of damage is simply staggering!
That this boat ever made it back to port is a tribute to its designers, builders, and especially to the crew and captain. How does America keep finding men like these?

This is exactly why I wanted the "expert" to look it up himself and read all of the relative posts. Since when is that too damn much to ask?? Oh, you want me to go back through thousands of posts to prove YOUR POINT! I don't need to. You obviously missed the key posts that show that you have no basis for your claim.

So there was no valid disscussion that the charts were deficient? There was a discussion but noone knows since the charts are classified. If you had read the threads, you would know that!
If the chart was accurate and the Captain picked a course that would lead them into a mountain would you just brace yourself and hit it?
If you had read the threads (In fact, if you had read THIS thread) you would know that that statement is no relevant and implies false information related to the incident.

After a sub hits a mountain around Guam at flank speed killing a fellow human I think that I would make the big "D" red. Now, that is some Monday Morning Quarterbacking ...

I'll proudly say my elder son will be on one of these before the year is out as a Nuke. God Bless our Military.G-d Bless your son for volunteering, and G-d Bless you, for raising children willing to take on the responsibility.
Thank you!

"After a sub hits a mountain around Guam at flank speed killing a fellow human I think that I would make the big "D" red." But your comment about the charts being "very deficient", in #301, concerned what was known prior to the accident. So, how was the Captain supposed to determine the charts were deficient? Is there some secret code?

Would the helmsman keep a course that would cause them to run into a clearly marked mountain?
I am asking same the question again.

I stand corrected. I think I found the post to support your position:

I understand that while the captain's chart was a little out date, it did give some indication that he could expect trouble in that area. The chart was clearly labeled, "Here be monsters".

Ok. I'll correct it.

Ok, now that is funny!!
Since as you state the charts are classified, I guess we will have to wait and see.
I am still curious as to what happens when a course is plotted if it would clearly lead to a collision.

Don't even need a new parts. Just pull em off the old boats at Puget Sound. That's my old boat USS Omaha (SSN-693) next to the hull of the Long Beach. Same class as San Francisco.

I think their charts were no good.

They should take it to Orange County Choppers. They could cut off the front end and re-weld a replacement in a week......

Grandchildren and drum sets are G-d's way of letting you "get even" with your children! Just had the 20 month old for 3 days. She learned to feed the cat but it was really funny when she got down flat on the floor and imitated the cat. Mom's going to find out a few other things in the next few days. I hope Mom understands that "play pot" means take all the pots and pans down and play "drum" with chopsticks!
