As I recall, Halle did not start to throw race around until after she had already won (in her embarrassing acceptance speech) so I don't think the charge of "mau-mauing her way to an Oscar" is fair.

Mau-Mauing, as Tom Wolfe originally defined it, was about the loud, cynical use of racial grievance to get what you want. If you want a real example of mau-mauing, look at Chris Rock's threats to "say something" on the live Oscar broadcast if Jamie Foxx doesn't win. That's mau-mauing.
