You said that the media focused on the flag in an effort to make Georgians look like "a bunch of ignorant redneck KKK sympathizers." It seems to me that that implies you give some credibility to the idea that supporting the flag indicates that.

The media loves to portray white Southerners as ignorant, hate-filled rednecks. You haven't noticed that?

I am well aware of how the media vilifies the South. I actually thought the local media DOWNPLAYED the flag issue for that reason. The AJC sure did. They didn't want to admit that the flag was that big a deal to a lot of people. They are way too busy trying to portray Georgia as "the New South" and Atlanta as an international city. The flag issue and Barnes' defeat was an embarrassment to them. Hence they tried to ignore it and downplay it as much as possible. I guess it is all a mater of perspective. I wanted them to talk up the flag issue. You wanted them to downplay it.
