Film at 11.

Actually, in space it was 5psi, but the reason for using pure O2 stemmed from a pressure chamber test in which nitrogen/oxygen mix was being used, but somehow the inhalation and exhalation hoses became crossed, causing the pilot to lose consciousness. Since he was on the ground, they were able to remove him safely, but it occurred to the powers that be if this happened in space they would have three dead astronauts. Plus, there was the additional weight required to have the equipment necessary to supply nitrogen and oxygen; finally, there was also the issue of "the bends" in the event of a sudden depressurization.

What an incredible man! I had not heard this before; unusual for someone with his responsibilities and incredible work schedule to take up car pooling on his rare times off. Makes me respect him all the more. Thank you for that.

Ummmm, you report INCORRECTLY...is your day job at CNN? Gus Grissom was probably the finest astronaut NASA will EVER SEE.

I WISH people would stop posting this. Unless you are a professional investigator, people viewing these photos are indulging in voyeurism, and it's such a violation to the FAMILIES. Is there a NEED to post photos of the suits on the Internet??????

"Ummmm, you report INCORRECTLY...

Ummmm, what did I report incorrectly? He, in fact, was involved in two prior "incidents," which is all I said.

is your day job at CNN?"

Ummmm, is it really necessary to be sarcastic? Ummmm, that's not very conservative of you! :-)

Ummmm, ummmm is not a word or maybe you think it is.

Ummmm, in other words, were you born an A$$hole or do you practice?

[Now Vega, the prime star of the constellation of Lyra, has an ancient name that comes from Arabic astronomy. Navi, on the other hand, is one of three bright stars in the Apollo list that had no common name and so were given names by the Apollo 1 crew, derived from the crew members themselves. Navi is Gus Grissom's middle name, Ivan, spelled backwards. It is the middle star of the "W" shape of Cassiopeia and is also known as Gamma Cassiopeiae. The other two stars names by the Apollo 1 crew are Dnoces ("second" spelled backwards) for Edward White II, and Regor ("Roger" spelled backwards) for Roger Chaffee. Though these names were entirely unofficial, they have found their way into astronomical literature.]

http://history.nasa.gov/ap08fj/03day1_green_sep.htm

It [Navi] is the middle star of the "W" shape of Cassiopeia...

navi...

05030 nabiy' {naw-bee'}
from 05012; TWOT - 1277a; n m

AV - prophet 312, prophecy 1, them that prophesy 1, prophet + 0376 1,
variant 1; 316

1) spokesman, speaker, prophet
1a) prophet
1b) false prophet
1c) heathen prophet

Funny how Ivan is the Russian form of John.

Navi = prophet
Ivan = John

Right there on the Queen's throne/chair, in the middle of the celestial W...

Speaking of Cassiopeia, green comet Machholz has been cruising through her neighborhood. Report from last Friday:

>>>Friday: Although Comet Machholz has slipped a magnitude off of its brightest, you should still be able to pick it up with unaided eye from a dark location. Look north, two-thirds of the way up.

Just to the west (left) of due north find the constellation Cassiopeia, shaped like a letter "M."* Its stars are similar in brightness to the Big Dipper. Tonight the comet sits 7 degrees (less than a fist) to the right of Cassiopeia. Look at the end of twilight. <<<

http://www.rednova.com/news/display/?id=124294

* M, when the constellation is positioned "above" Polaris

BTW, I was out Saturday and the sky was clear and dark, but I still needed the binoculars to distinguish the comet from the zillions of stars. Comet Machholz, on the diagram of the Queen, would be located (at least this week) on the back of her head (where her crown would rest).

mach, from machen (to make) perhaps from Macht (power)
Holz = wood, lumber.

Interesting. Perhaps the name derived from a woodworker ancestor of the discoverer (Don Machholz). Or a carpenter.

I was working on NASA C-130 trying to fix their INS (LN-12)
The project Manage on 130-- was the man in charge of
Apollo 13 during the fire ----As alway, having a few drinks
with the crew ---- THEY SAID this man was a clean freak that cover the whole interior gold wash in Apollo with Styrofoam(SIC) oil base-Plus O2 and teflon with its cold flow problems
THIS WAS CAUSED BECAUSE PADDING THE INTERIOR WITH
STARAFOAM (FUEL) BY THIS MANAGER TO KEEP APOLLO LOOKING NICE

I had to check out the date this happened because last night I had a dream I was in an Apollo simulator that was at NASA and they simulated the fire. I knew Grissom, White, and Chaffee were in the tragedy but there was a fourth person and that was what woke me up because I could not remember who was the fourth person. I concluded it was me because it took so much out of me when this happened. Most of us knew that we had less than a 50% chance of surviving any mission but that did not dissuade us. These Hero's changed the Apollo engineering and safety measures to escape danger. None of the Saturn V missions failed. In the end NASA or NASA funding failed the space program. Our moonwalkers may soon be all gone. Appreciate those pioneers while they are still with us.

Very spooky. I’ve heard that there were other accidents? but not reported because no one was killed. Is this true?
