Sorry - sam cree may be running Mac System 9 - Firefox doesn't tread in there. An upgrade to System 10.4 is his IDEAL path but there is a Quickie solution for FREE.
http://www.mozilla.org/download.html#os9 I've been manufacturing DVD's & Photo Books with my Mac for a Year now & will KEEP my 4 Year old G4 tower running for YEARS more: why tamper with perfection? (any time I start to feel sorry for windows users I fire up Windows XP on Virtual PC: that cures me - they get what they deserve!) Anyone that says Windows is a far better computing experience hasn't seen or played with the NEW Macintosh line & is unqualified to compare! They're IGNORANCE is Obvious to ANYONE that HAS Compared! (Like that iMac G5 20" I switched those Windows 98 users to - they're STILL Thanking Me!!)

Yeah, they'll be computing at light speed, but won't know a damn thing about how to keep Windoze PC's from constantly crashing... I guess that's why so many PC-using companies have IT guys... Those that use Mac just keep going!

Yeah, sam: if you've got System X on that iBook forget Mozilla 1.2.1 - Use Safari Instead! Firefox ALSO is a GREAT Browser - STUFF that Internet Explorer back into the slimy software hole it crawled out of! Mac users are Helpful Too!

"If Apple succeeds in better integrating the Microsoft software into its platform..."
That's been a reality for a few years now, at least since OSX (UNIX/NeXT-step underpinnings)... I'm all Mac, all my clients are all PC, never a day goes by that we don't seamlessly pass PC/Mac files back and forth from WORD, EXCEL, POWERPOINT, and the always handy PDF, without a second thought...

"It's th arrogance of MAC people that offends me. The call me stupid because I have a better, faster machine for half the cost...."
Generalizing users of a particular OS strikes me as a bit odd... Maybe 10 years ago, when there were less than a handful of crossover programs between Mac and PC and the Mac cost was WAY above PC...
Speed is a subjective thing nowadays anyway... Question should be how productive are you in a given task? How often are you dealing with OS induced errors and not working on projects? System freezes? SLOW and FOREVER startups? Pop Up ads and SPY ware junk when you try to check the news? God forbid you try to add a sound card, the hard drives will probably freak and crash!
I'd much rather pop open the laptop and get to work (haven't had to restart my machine for about 3 weeks, OSX never crashes, I hear that's a UNIX thing).
But to each his own, besides it's almost a seamless world with MS Office...
Just like Fords and Chevy's! ha ha! They all run on the same liquid...

Oh yeah, of course. It was just a hell of a jump from $75 for 512. Swordmaker updated me earlier, said Apple dropped $150 off the price of the gig previously. I only saw the prices on their website...
Does anyone know if the thing uses standard drives? From the size of the 'half cube', the harddrives would HAVE to be laptop drives; but I wonder if the CD/DVD is a standard size for anything - not that many use slot-loaders.

Actually one button is all you need the way the Mac-OS is set-up...
And that's the problem...I like my right-click drop-down menus, and I don't want to have to use both hands to get them.

Not too many different sizes of slot-load drives. When I replaced the slot-load in my buddy's iMac (the old CRT model), I found that the slot-load drive is quite small as compared to a standard tray-load.
I am imagining that the drive in the MacMini is similar in size - But I don't know that from experience.
The HD in the Mini is, in fact, a notebook drive - 2.5 inch IDE. In that regard, it is "normal" drive - should be replaceable with any 2.5 inch drive.

"It is ironic that my son's new Mac comes with the ubiquitous Microsoft Office." Actually it is logical. I mean, doesn't Microsoft own a piece of Apple? Or did they sell it off?

Just where will that happen ?
ALL of these kids will be working with the THREE out of a hundred computers sold in the world last year ?
Like it our not, the real world runs on PC's and these kids are not being prepared for it.

But, I guess full time employment for IT folk is important... which I assume you must be (or you just like lego sets)!!
PC=Chevy, it has to be easy to work on... it's always breaking.
Mac= Jaguar, 'cause it is a little more difficult to learn, but purrs like a cat, and outruns the others!!!

Not sure what Rush is up to anymore. At least he's not running foreign freeware like Linux. Nope, just American freeware like Darwin. But he is running the free Apache and Linux for his web server, switched from Solaris.
Rush is a communist!

Poor kids when they get out into the real world... I know, it's like learning to drive on a Mercedes, only to find you'll be driving a Kia in the real world. You can do it,, but it won't be pleasant.

I don't care what El Rushbo endorses; I wouldn't voluntarily give Steve Jobs a penny.
