Give me just one example of a virus that will attack Macintosh OS X. Just one, that's all I ask.
Walt Mossberg writing in the Wall Street Journal last week:
In addition, the mini comes with Apple's latest operating system, called Panther, which has so far never been attacked by a successful virus and has been plagued with little or no known spyware."
But unfortunately there will always be people who manufacture FUD to make a buck.
Well I could list more but because you asked for "Just one" there is Opener which hit the net about 3 months ago and it attacks MAC OS X as well as most Unix based O/S's. There are a lot more out there but there is "Just one" like you asked for.
Ya there are more that will attack windows, but that is beacuse over 85% of the computers in the world use Windows. But Mac's are attacked by Viruses and the fact that most Mac users work under the misconception that because they use a Mac they are safe is making them a more popular target for hackers.
SH/Renepo-A is the creature you are looking for.
SH/Renepo-A is a shell script worm targeted at the Mac OS X platform. If run on your computer (either accidentally or by design), it copies itself to the local startup directory (/System/Library/StartupItems) and to any other mounted volumes, including other computers on your network. SH/Renepo-A also makes infected StartupItems folders world-writeable, thus opening a dangerous backdoor on any system it infects.
"Just one, that's all I ask."
Why do I have the feeling that that will not be all you ask for? That you will find some excuse to deny that such a virus does exist and it does indeed infect OS X. <sigh>
If a MAC is invulnerable to a virus attack, then that means there is no antivirus software for the MAC then, right?
As I recall, there were over 100,000 new trojans and viruses reported in 2004.
