If you have a Mac you no longer have to worry about viruses. There aren't any for the Mac.

That bit of Mac-Head mythology will get you in trouble. More proof Mac's are more of a religion than a computer platform

Please read the rest of the thread. Renepo is a piece of Malware that requires a user to manually install it, and give it administrator privaleges. It isn't a virus. It can't transmit itself, and unlike the windows scripts, it can't be run simply by opening a file attachment.

Look, I never said Macs were 100% secure, they aren't. There are numerous known exploits and I just installed the latest security patch this morning.

However, when it comes to viruses, there are absolutely no known viruses that effect OS X. All the examples out there that folks are throwing at me require manual user action to install them, including giving the script administrator privleges. You can't screw up a Mac by simply opening an e-mail attachment. And there is nothing out there that will mail itself to your address book.

Macs are just vulnerable to getting a virus and just as easy to create a virus for.

A friend of mine claims that the Mac is protected because the software is so much better.

I tried to inform him that the only reasons Macs do not have the same problems is that people are simply not bothering with them because there are so few of them in the market... and people just hate Microsoft.

Also, corporate licenses, by definition demand multiple installs with the same code. Tech departments are not going to have a Bible of different keys for the hundreds, or thousands of computers.

(I have never had any problems with my corporate key.. and never hope to.)
