All of the BB's had names of States. Cities were cruisers.

All of the BB's had names of States.

Not all. BB-5 was named U.S.S. Kearsarge, the only U.S. battleship not to be named for a state. As a side note, Montana was the only state during the days of battleship building to never have an active duty battleship named for it. One was scrapped under the WNT before completion and the other was the lead ship of a class that was canceled in 1943.
