Where, exactly, did you see that he told them to lie?
He said take the oath, but remember your morals. He didn't say wage jihad on the government and overthrow it so God can rule. When you pull an article that says that, I'm on your side.
What do you propose to do - not allow any muslims into the US at all because the Quoran says they can lie and can't take oaths? There are a lot of muslim extremists, but not all of them are. I'll reserve judgment until I hear what they have to say and/or view their actions. And despite common perceptions, we have a lot of the good type already here.
If lying didn't bother the muslim (meaning he thought it was OK), then why did he ask the Imam the question?

Law abiding muslims are welcome in the US, IMO.

But Sharia does not permit secular law. Thus one cannot both abide by Sharia and uphold the Constitution of the United States - they are in existential conflict with one another.
What is clear to the imam, the Muslim asking the question, and to me - but not to you - is that the imam is advising the questioner to follow the Islamic doctrine of taqiyya, or dissimulation, the essence of which is to lie to infidels to gain advantage over them.
You need to understand a) what Sharia is; b) what the end goal of Islam is; and c) the doctrine of taqiyya.
What you are putting forth is perfectly reasonable, in ignorance of what these things mean. However, it is very wrong to the point of being suicidal. When you understand the implications of the above, you will realize that to give any quarter whatsoever to Islam is to send more of our own countrymen to their deaths.
I strongly encourage you to educate yourself about Islam - but remember, when you read statements aimed at a non-Muslim audience, they are practicing taqiyyah.
