SEARCH ENGINE giant Google has a added a test video search facility.
Reuters said the facility will allow searches on Fox, ABC, PBS and others.
It quotes co-founder Larry Page as saying that it will search thousands of TV programmes. Yahoo introduced a test service for video at the end of last year. µ

Yahoo! released its new Video Search feature for testing, which the company hopes to add to its site in early 2005. Yahoo!'s video search tool follows AOL's late-November release of SingingFish, which performs a similar function.
Although Yahoo! was not making public comments on the release, an entry appeared on the company's official blog Wednesday. Jeremy Zawodny of Yahoo! Search says there is a lot of video on the Internet that regular search engines are missing. "That's exactly why we're talking to a lot of our existing media partners, many of whom have sizeable video assets |

Google Freshens Picasa Photo Software

The second iteration of Picasa, the photo organizing software acquired last summer by Google, has been released. Picasa 2.0 touts more advanced editing tools and improved organization, while simplifying overall photo management for users of all skill levels.
Picasa users now can utilize 12 photographic filter effects, along with color adjustments, cropping and red-eye removal. Labels and stars can be added to photos for faster ordering and searching.
"With Picasa 2, we've made it easier for people to find, organize, improve and enhance their photographs, as well as create photo CDs, personalized slideshows, desktop collages, and much more," said Lars Perkins, General Manager at Picasa.
Google has also added its own touch to the software. Adding to Picasa's ability to upload photos to Blogger, version 2.0 enables users to e-mail photos through Google's Gmail service.
Picasa, which some call a Windows counterpart to Apple's iPhoto for Macs, is offered as a free download.

Guess we should test it by requesting either videos of the whale blown up in Oregon, or by seeking out videos of our choppers dropping rounds on the Iraqi terrorists.

Google to Scan, Index Library BooksPosted by

In an agreement with five major libraries, Google has begun an ambitious project to scan and index millions of books and periodicals. The information will be integrated into Google's Web search over the next several years. Launched in October, Google Print already offers glimpses of new books, but focuses primarily on publishers rather than libraries.
The New York public library has agreed to submit books out of copyright, while Harvard will test the process with 40,000 titles. Oxford University has asked Google to index its books published before 1901. Only Stanford and Michigan universities have agreed to provide all of their libraries' materials to Google.
But for now, having a digital copy of books online doesn't mean an end to the library card. Like its current book searches, users will only be able to view bibliographies and excerpts from copyrighted books. Google will, however, provide complete access to books whose copyrights have expired.

Has anyone tried the Picasa photo software yet?
I can't until I get my computer back from the shop since I'm on my old W-95.

Looks like I have an Old version, got it from film processing company, haven't really done anything with it, seemed better that the Kodak one though.
Guess I need to download the Version 2 and check it out.

The Kodak one was somewhat of a problem for me. It kept coming up on my startup tasks (thanks Windog Scottie) and I kept deleting it. I'm hoping it's gone now, although how would I know since the computer is in the hospital anyway. lol
