Waaaaah Waaaaah Waaaaaahh.......I imagine there will be a million childish whinefests over Passion of the Christ not getting enough nominations posted here for weeks.

Get over it people. The earth is still spinning, and the sun will come up tomorrow, without it getting a Best Pic nom.

Lots of films that make lots of money don't get nominated. It's not like this is the first time.

And frankly there's a point where religion is going to get in the way of objective analysis. People have reached the point where anyone who doesn't worship Passion of the Christ are essentially being labled by definition Atheists, etc.

While I could care less who Oscar nominates not having watched in 20 years, especially since what they think constituted a good picture is usually some liberal message shoved down the audiences throat, not a picture that stands up to time and is watched year after year like most of the original Oscar movies.

I do not think that people here would object so much if it was not such blatant hypocrisy this year. There was no other movie that even came close to being the type of ageless film, and art that Oscars are suppose to represent. If there was I think that most would understand that there is no way that Hollywood would pick "The Passion" over anything that came close.

The Passion was art (whether Christian or not) in a sea of boring, dull canned themes that have been done to death and from the pictures this article talks about, the only one that will stand the test of time for audiences.

Be honest, what other film this year was there that was shot so beautifully (or vividly depending on the view), or captured the audience the way this film did or will stand the test of time and will still have an audience 30 to 40 years from now. You can be an atheist and still see that there is no other picture this year that accomplished this.

I agree about the Passion. Christians appreciate it because their "story" has been made real for them.

I appreciated The Lord of the Rings, in part, for the same reason: it sure is fabulous to see something meaningful to me brought to life.

But if you aren't a Christian, what IS the entertainment value of The Passion? Two thousand years ago a nice and historically influential guy gets the crap beaten out of him, and then he gets executed? In agonizing detail.

Getting back to my fave flick, at least Lord of the Rings made people who DIDN'T read it care- people who had no personal investment in the story were enthralled by it. (That is, by the way, why you will see a HUGE drop in Oscar viewership numbers this year- no LOTR)

My point is, a film with dialogue in Latin and Aramaic, telling a story that everyone knows, but not everyone believes, may not deserve a nomination for best picture. I understand why its fans think it does. But it preaches only to the choir.

I find your views amusing only at best and at worst ?!?!?!?
BUT, you seem to be missing the point that everyone else here understands.
Granted not many member of this BBS might be not remotely conected to the OSCARs, MPAA, actors or the entertaiment industry, but that doesn't limit our posting of our opinions on these current issues.

Most people here are saying that even if you use any of the OSCARs requirements or the "dynamics" of common Oscar history, the fact remains that the "Passion of the Christ" should have been nominated for more award catagories. When you compare it's numerous positive attributes to other previous OSCAR winners, this film was boycotted from more of the OSCAR nominations.
ATTENTION: People should understand that the OSCARs are a "good ol' boy club" producer's award ie. producers awarding other producers. The real acting awards are the SAG awards voted on by actors and the director's awards are given at the DGA voted on by directors and so on. You understand?
