There are countless piles of this crap jsut lying around the former USSR. Some of it has just been left in fields and old buildings.

True. When the Russians pulled out of Ukraine they left enough ordinance to shoot through two world wars. just trying to get rid of this stuff is an enormous drain on Ukraines economy.
