This is just something that struck me and I posted it to the MND forum. I did a websearch of the topic, and to my surprise, found out I wasn't the only one who felt the same way about the commercial.

Freeper's thoughts?

didn't strike me as any more offensive than the game that it interrupted. but I wouldn't guess that it would sell very much Dr. Pepper, either.

Yeah, I found the ad pretty screwed up too. The looks between the mom and kids along with the words of the song is too weird.Wonder if they'll do one of a softball dad showing up in his mini van stocked with Dr. P and he leers at the little softball girls to the rousing sounds of Tull's Aqualung?

Sitting on a park bench...eyeing little girls with bad intent...

in the song, Stacy's mom is a hottie. This commercial actually has a not-hot mom, but she's got it going on because she has Dr. Pepper.

I thought it was stupid since the song, as they used it, doesn't fit. It could have been edited to fit.

This commercial was more dumb than offensive. The idea was pretty good...Stacy's mom 'has it going on' because of the Dr. Pepper. Kind of like the Bud Light commercial to counter the Miller lite ref commercials, where they uncover the ref is taking the bud and replacing Miller not because Miller's better, but because they wanted the bud light for themselves. This a weak attempt at that kind of shifted meaning.

They should've gotten Mary Kay LeTourneau to star in this ad.

Welcome to Free Republic.
So, what do you think about that flaming homosexual, SpongeBob SquarePants?

There is an undercurrent of casually sexualized pedophilia in the social zeitgeist. It is creepy.

A few years ago we were dealing with more straightforwardly sexualized pedophilia in underwear ads -- that was easy to compartmentalize and isolate off in the out-of-normal band. This is an attempt to normalize, to stay in band of normal behaviour.

As you suggest it may have been authored by a homosexual to promote pederasty by means of a female switcheroo -- which runs in the same vein as happened with Sex-in-the-City and Desperate Housewifes.

I think it more likely a South Park social cynic libertarian punching out at the hypocrisy in the MTV renditions of "Stacy's Mom" and subconsciously tuned into the same gesalt as the recent flurry of adult woman teachers hooking up with young boys.

Nobody has posted the lyrics?

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on

Stacy, can i come over after school? (after school)
We can hang around by the pool (hang by the pool)
Did your mom get back from her business trip? (business trip)
Is she there, or is she trying to give me the slip? (give me the slip)

You know, I'm not the little boy that I used to be
I'm all grown up now, baby can't you see

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want and I;ve waited for so long
Stacy, can't you see you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong but I'm in love with Stacy's mom

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
Stacy's mom has got it goin' on

Stacy, do you remember when I mowed your lawn? (mowed your lawn)
Your mom came out with just a towel on (towel on)
I could tell she liked me from the way she stared
And the way she said, "You missed a spot over there"

And I know that you think it's just a fantasy
But since your dad walked out, your mom could use a guy like me

Stacy's mom has got it goin' on
She's all I want, and I've waited so long
Stacy, can't you see you're just not the girl for me
I know it might be wrong,
but I'm in love with Stacy's mom

I missed the commercial because I was too busy fast-forwarding it on the TiVo. Haven't watched commercials in about two years now. But I do share your sentiment, especially about the portrayal of bumbling idiot white male fathers. It's ridiculous.

There's a steady drumbeat to mainstream pedophilia in this country.

What do you expect to follow the erection pill commercials that seem to be obligatory for every break in the program?

For some reason, our society is perfectly OK with a pedophile if she's an attractive young woman. Like you said though, swap a balding, overweight, middle-aged man into the picture and nobody will be smirking.

Strange how flexible people's morality has become.

Considering all the older teachers with young boys crap going around, this ad is in poor taste. I saw it and thought it was way too weird myself.

There is definitely a double standard there with those adds- and I for one as sick of it being acceptable to mock white males. They are the ONLY group that it is okay to mock and represent in a negative way. It bothers me- and turns me off to the product if I see it in an add.
