THE folks at the BBC very often verge on genius, and sometimes even get there < snip >
This movie tackles the real-life possibility that the government (any government) is really totally unprepared for a surprise attack of the chemical and/or biological variety.
"Dirty War" tells the story of one such attack from the points of view of the terrorists, the emergency services workers, the pols and the firefighters.
If there's a problem with the movie, it's that it's too realistic and that's a lot scarier than button-busting babes and know-it-all heroes who save the day < snip >
The cops are, however, observing the terrorists who are working in a safe house but not. A Muslim convenience-store owner has had her eye on them since they criticized her daughter for her Western dress, and sees them unloading late-night deliveries.
Unlike an American movie, the hero isn't in time to stop the bomb, and we see what can happen when germs are mixed with explosives and radioactive materials, which not only destroy buildings but also can be carried uncontrolled for miles by the wind. Scary stuff. Well-done, well-written, well-acted, and most importantly, well-researched
Might be good.
I watched one of those type movies on TV when I was a kid like 20 years ago. "Special Report" was it, where bad guys set off a nuke in the US?
Don't know. I like button-busting babes.
Great Movie, too. I think it was called "Special Bulletin".
It was done like a breaking story with talking heads at a news desk with field reporters and such. Starred Ed Flanders
(St. Elsewhere) and the bomb, which domestic terrorists had rigged on a tugboat in a Charleston harbour, was captured. Feds move in and take out the bad guys but fool around with a bomb that has anti-handling devices hooked to it. KA-BOOOM!! Atomic blast on American soil. People freaked, as I recall...flooding new rooms with questions....police forces
contacted. Kind of like "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast by Orson Welles.
Nicely done and scary as all get out. I think its on DVD somewhere.
>>but also can be carried uncontrolled for miles by the wind<<
Carried? Or diluted...
I really enjoyed "Special Bulletin." I was thinking of it as well when I was reading this article.
They have "the day after" at the pawn shop for five bucks on dvd...
I'd like to see threads again.
I just bought "Red Dawn" at the pawn shop. Forgot how good it was...
The "Amerika" miniseries was good, too...anyone know if that's on DVD?
just watched this, it was amazing. Very well written, and likely accurate.
Are those from Dirty War?
It looks terrifying.
I recorded it but haven't watched it yet.
this movie gets an A+.
SCARY.
